Location: Yangshou, China
Well we set off on yet another adventure, this time we where doing it in style "flying". We got to the airport after an hour bus trip which was going to be much longer than our flight as that took only 45 mins where we were met by some people from the airline who took us in the car to Guilin to our first stop. The car ride was strange as it felt like I was in my girlfriends parents car when I was 14 that uncomfortable feeling of silence. But we soon got to the hotel and checked in. It was a hotel trying very hard to be trendy and arty but not doing so well at it, but it was a nice little place. We then had a walk around and where meet at every corner by someone trying to sell us something which was getting to be a pain in the ass. We found a nice bar with tables in the river near the famous mountain which looks like an elephant drinking, nothing like sitting in the river on chairs and drinking a beer, I recommend it!!!!!
That night we had our first of many "Beer fish" which is a local specialty which we didn't thing was that special that night but did find a good one the next night and the next night.
The following day we made our move to Yangshou which was going to be our home for the next 3 days or so, we managed to get a taxi, still traveling in style , which took us about 1 1/2 maybe to the world renound West Street and our hotel.
Yangshou is a beautiful place with fantastic mountains and rivers West Street is like an oasis for Westerners with French, Mexican and continental food and drinks. There is a wonderful market which you have to be ready to bargain in.
We soaked all of this up the first day and made plans for our stay. Everyday we had an ice-cream from a shop conveniently situated at the entrance of our hotel and this became a sort of ritual we did everyday.
We did do a bike ride and river raft tour which was great and the views where fantastic. We went to Shangri La, which is an old village and once again you do a boat ride and have a walk around. But the bike ride is probable the best thing we did Sarah and I got a tandem bike and a guide and off we went for the day.
Yangshou is a FANTASTIC place really relaxing but like all things it had to come to an end so we packed up all our stuff we seemed to have bought and hoped into a taxi which whisked us off to the airport which took 2 hrs and that was the end of that.
