Location: Flagstaff, USA

Brent has started teaching at NAU (Northern Arizona University) and I am looking for work.
I thought you might appreciate this little story...
Brent works in the NAU math department with a married couple who have three young daughters. The husband is a runner. The wife enjoys swimming, but is not a runner. I have met them twice now and they are a lovely family. Anyway, the husband asked Brent what his plans were for the labor day long-weekend as he and his wife wanted to take the girls camping at the Grand Canyon. He suggested that Brent and I could come along, and on Saturday he and Brent could go for a long run into the canyon "while the wives and the kids hung out on the rim".
Not bloody likely that I'd be hanging out on the rim while Brent goes running for a couple of hours through the Grand Canyon...

Location: Flagstaff, AZ, USA

Greetings from Flagstaff Arizona- our new home!!
We took a 1 week long road trip to get here and have arrived safely. We successfully apartment-hunted this afternoon and have a new (and tiny) 1 br apartment/studio. We hope to move in on Sunday.
We took loads of great photos on our drive here and I'll post some here in a few days.

Friday, 01 August 2008

Location: Boulder, USA

Brent and I are leaving Boulder in one week. It's a sad feeling. We have such a great and simple little life here. We both ride our bikes to work, the grocery store and the Mountain Sun. We can run before work and climb after work, camp on the weekends. I love living here!
We have our moving van booked for Saturday August 9th. It's a 4 day rental so we're making a road trip of it, stopping at Crested Butte (beautiful!), Mesa Verde National Park and driving through Monument Valley.
Brent starts work at NAU on August 18th.
We haven't got anywhere to live in Flagstaff just yet, but something will come up. If not, I hear that the summer is a good time to camp in Arizona...

Thursday, 17 July 2008

Location: USA

Brent finished his PhD this morning. 5.5 years all wrapped up...
We've got a big run/hike/adventure in the mountians planned for Tuesday. We'll be starting at 4am and above 13 000ft for most of the time. It'll probably take us about 6-7 hours and I'm REALLY excited! I promise to take some photos- sunrise above tree level in The Indian Peaks is going to be very special...

Wednesday, 09 July 2008

Location: Boulder, USA

Brent and I are moving to Flagstaff in mid-August.
Our summer in Colorado is going by quickly, but we're fitting in lots of running, climbing and camping. I finish up at Intrepid on August 8th :(
Brent's final copy of his PhD thesis is due on Monday- we'll both be ver relieved to have it all finished!
Congratulations to Angela on the purchase of her new apartment in Clovelly- I can't wait to come and visit :)

Location: Lima, Peru

Hola de Peru! Hello from Peru!
I arrived last night into Lima and tomorrow morning we fly to Cuzco. Im here on a work training trip and meet the rest of the group I´ll be travelling with this afternoon.
My Spanish skills are proving to be useful :)
Happy Birthday Andrew!

Thursday, 29 May 2008

Location: Boulder, USA

Today Brent successfully defended his PhD thesis.
I am married to Dr Pohlmann!!

Monday, 19 May 2008

Location: Boulder, USA

Brent and I are leaving Boulder in August. We're moving to Flagstaff Arizona where Brent will be working as a lecturer at Northern Arizona University (NAU). I have told Intrepid Travel that I will be leaving and I feel sad to have to give up a job that I really enjoy- the people here are so down-to-earth and love having fun whilst getting the job done! Saying that, I am very excited to live in Flagstaff as there's tons of hiking, biking and climbing. We'll be right next door to The Grand Canyon!
Brent is defending his PhD thesis on May 29th :)

Wednesday, 27 February 2008

Location: Boulder, USA

I have a new job! I start on March 10th and will be working as a Sales Consultant for an Aussie-based travel company called "Intrepid". Basically I'll be selling adventure holidays to Americans who want to travel the world :) I am looking forward to my first real job in a really long time! The office is brand new and located on Pearl Street in downtown Boulder. I can ride my bike to work and enjoy a view of the Flatirons from our office. Wahoo!

Saturday, 02 February 2008

Location: Boulder, USA

It's cold in Colorado!
I miss Sydney's warm weather and beautiful beaches. It's beautiful here too, but in a cold & snowy kinda way! Despite the climatic adjustment, I am glad to be back in Boulder with Brent. The days will slowly get longer and warmer, right?!
I've applied for my Social Security Number and I am now officially legal to work in The USA. Brent and I have our final interview with USCIS on February 22nd, and after that I should soon become a Permanent Resident here.
Exciting times ahead :)

Thursday, 24 January 2008

Location: Taipei, Taiwan

Greetings from Taiwan!
I am flying with China Air and my flight from Sydney to San Francisco connects here in Taipei.
I had a wonderful time with my family in Australia over the summer. I feel very lucky to be a part of the James Clan! However, I miss Brent terribly and now have a home in Colorado that I am desperate to return to. I am very much loved in two parts of the world :)

Thursday, 17 January 2008

Location: Sydney, Australia

I'm going home! My approval for re-entry to the USA has finally arrived in Colorado and Brent has re-directed it to Angela's address here in Sydney. I leave Australia on Thursday January 24th. My parents have very generously paid for my one-way flight back to Brent. Are they so excited to get rid of me??!! No, I know that they love me and are very happy to support Brent and I as we start our life together.
Thanks Mum & Dad!
Also thanks to Angela and her flatmate Pete who have very kindly allowed me to stay on their couch for the past two months :)

Monday, 07 January 2008

Location: Sydney, Australia

Happy New Year!
I am still in Australia and am now getting anxious about receiving my paperwork to re-enter the USA. I can't book my flight until the USCIS gives me permission to return to America. It's frustrating. I miss Brent!
The James Family had a great Christmas filled with good food, a few drinks and plenty of reliable weather. Since leaving Emerald Beach we've learned that it's been raining there every day! We were lucky little beach bunnies.
Angela had a party back in Sydney on Friday night for her 27th Birthday. A good night was had by all- there are some photos on the most recent photo page.

Wednesday, 05 December 2007

Location: Sydney, Australia

Greetings from sunny Sydney!
I have been back in Sydney for two weeks and am enjoying the warm weather and long summer days. I'm staying with my sister Angela in Clovelly and she lives just 4 blocks away from the beach. It's tops!
My brother David lives 15minutes away in Randwick and my other brother Andrew lives up in Newcastle. This sunday afternoon we are all meeting for a BBQ at the beach. Life is good!
I'm working some catering/hospitality jobs around the city and eastern suburbs. I'll continue with that until Christmas when we'll all drive up to Grafton and then on to Emerald Beach for a week or so.
I hope to return to Brent in Colorado in mid-late January. We are just waiting on some USCIS paperwork that allows me to re-enter the country...

Wednesday, 14 November 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

I am flying to Australia on Saturday. I feel both happy and sad: happy to see my family again and be back in Sydney and sad to leave Brent here in Colorado. He is busy working towards finishing his PhD and applying for post-graduate jobs.
I will be home for Christmas and will return to Colorado in January 2008.

Sunday, 21 October 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

It's snowing in Boulder for the first time since April. The fall draws to and end as the winter creeps in...
The days here are shorter and cooler. We've been running and climbing as weather permits. This weekend we are planning what I believe will be our final camping weekend of the year. Brent is a little tougher and somewhat optimistic with the cooler weather. I associate camping with warm weather!!
Congratulations to my brother Andrew who graduated from Newcastle University last week :)

Sunday, 19 August 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

Brent and I are married!
We had a wonderful outdoor ceremony yesterday afternoon in Dream Canyon.
With friends we climbed in the morning, got married at 3pm and had drinks and food until about 6pm.
Please have a look at some of our photos!

Wednesday, 01 August 2007

Location: USA

Brent and I are getting married!
First we will have a ceremony/celebration here on August 18th.
Secondly we will have an Aussie version later in 2007 when Brent and I are back in Australia.

Tuesday, 24 July 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

Brent and I are going to San Francisco!
We leave tomorrow and will be there house & cat sitting for one week. It will be a relief to escape the hot summer temperatures here in Colorado. Each day reaches the high 90s (high 30s celcius) and we haven't had an afternoon thunderstorm in forever.
Now it seems surreal that there was ever snow and ice and unbearably cold winter temperatures here...

Saturday, 07 July 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

Today I saw a bumper-sticker on a car that read:
"I love my country, but I think that we should start seeing other people".
I liked the message; very subtle. There are too many unnecessarily oversized cars in America. Many of the owners of such vehicles proudly display overstated political messages. Perhaps if more people chose to drive smaller vehicles the country would need less gas and would therefore have less of an interest in controlling the world's gas supply?
Just a thought.

Sunday, 17 June 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

A pious man explained to his followers:
"It is evil to take lives and noble to save them. Each day I pledge to save a hundred lives. I drop my net into the lake and scoop out a hundred fishes. I place the fishes on the bank, where they flop and twirl. "Don't be scared," I tell those fishes. "I am saving you from drowning." Soon enough, the fishes grow calm and lie still. Yet, sad to say, I am always too late. The fishes expire. And because it is evil to waste anything, I take those dead fishes to market and I sell them for a good price. With the money I recieve I buy more nets so I can save more fishes."

Friday, 15 June 2007

Location: Colorado, USA

We are safely back in Colorado after travelling for almost 2 days between Kalymnos and Boulder. I was very grateful to be sleeping in a bed last night! No surprise really after a night on the airport floor in Athens and a 9 hour overnight flight between London and Denver.
Having holidays and travelling is fun, but it's also nice to be home again. We had a wonderful 5 weeks in Kalymnos. Now we are back to work and play here in Boulder for the summer. Brent will continue to work on finishing his PHD whilst I work my little part-time job. We have lots of climbing and running planned to keep us entertained...

Sunday, 10 June 2007

Location: Kalymnos, Greece

Happy Birthday Andrew!
Brent and I have 3 more sleeps in Kalymnos before returning to Colorado. Holidays are fun, but we are looking forward to being home again.
We have a ton of awesome photos from our time here in Greece. I will post them here when we get back to Boulder after June 14th.
Until then we plan to climb, swim, eat, drink and be merry :)

Wednesday, 30 May 2007

Location: Kalymnos, Greece

I led my first 7B!
Brent and I have two weeks left here in Kalymnos.

Friday, 18 May 2007

Location: Kalymnos, Greece

Thankyou everyone for the birthday messages! I had a great day of climbing of May 11th and am proud to be 28 years old.
Brent and I have been climbing, swimming, cooking, eating, drinking and being merry here in Kalymnos. It's hot, sunny and peaceful :)

Monday, 30 April 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

Brent and I are going to Kalymnos. It's a little Greek Island next to Turkey that has loads of rockclimbing, reasonably priced accommodation, good cold beer and quiet, beautiful beaches.
Anyway, we are leaving in one week and will be away for five :)

Monday, 16 April 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

Peg and Peter have departed The USA. They stayed with Brent and I here in Boulder for 12 nights. The weather was not as reliable as we'd planned, but Peg and Peter were very accommodating when the conditions resembled winter more than spring. It snowed three times whilst they were here.
We walked, ate, drank, did brewery tours, tea factory tours, visited Breckenridge ski resort, shopped when the weather was really bad, took silly photos and generally had a holiday. Brent had to teach for some days and I had to work, but our weekly committments were not too big.
It was great having them here. I think that Peg and Peter had a good time. It was a long way for them to travel and I am very grateful for the time and money they dedicated towards meeting Brent and having a holiday in The USA :)

Thursday, 29 March 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

Brent and I have prematurely returned from our Spring Break climbing trip. It was too cold and windy yesterday to climb. We agreed that climbing and camping is best done under warmer conditions, and the weather forecast was not looking good. So, after drivng back to Boulder yesterday afternoon we have awoken this morning to 2 inches of fresh snow that continues to fall.
I thought that winter was over!?
On a brighter note, Peg and Peter have arrived safely into San Francisco. I spoke to them in their hotel last night and they were settling into the city with a bottle of wine and hunk of cheese. Brent and I will meet them at Denver Airport on Sunday :)

Sunday, 18 March 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

"Spring Break" starts at the end of this week. Brent and I are going climbing at an area called "Shelf Road", which is about 2-3 hours drive south of Boulder.
Peg and Peter will arrrive in Colorado on April 1st. They are staying here for 2 weeks! Brent and I will collect them from Denver Airport and do our best to show them a good time whilst they are here :)

Wednesday, 07 March 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

I have a job!

Wednesday, 28 February 2007

Location: Boulder, USA

It's snowing heavily here.
This weather confuses me.
Rosie arrives tonight and will stay with Brent and I for a few days before she goes to Peru. Rosie is a Grafton girl who met up with Angela and I in Kalymnos last May. This weather might take some adjusting to....

Tuesday, 20 February 2007

Location: Boulder, Colorado, USA

I am pleased to announce that the weather has warmed up since my last entry. We even managed to go climbing outside on Saturday! I hadn't been climbing since November so got my butt kicked. Today is Tuesday and my body is still sore and feeling sorry for itself. Brent and I plan to go climbing again tomorrow...
I haven't had much luck in the finding-a-job-department.
Rules and regulations and frustrations...

Wednesday, 14 February 2007

Location: Boulder, Colorado, USA

I am back in Boulder!
Brent was waiting for me at Denver Airport last night and I can't remember the last time I was so happy to see someone after time spent apart. The only moment that comes to mind as a comparison was seeing Peg waiting for me at Coffs Harbour Airport when I'd returned from London with a broken leg.
It's snowing here, and subsequently very cold. Rather a rude shock for me after a deliciously warm weekend in Yamba and a sensational Sydney Summer.
Regardless of the weather in Colorado right now, there is nowhere else I'd rather be...

Monday, 12 February 2007

Location: Sydney, Australia

I have one more sleep in Australia...

Tuesday, 06 February 2007

Location: Sydney, Australia

I am tired! I have been working 6 or 7 days a week, and some of these days have included days as well as nights. However, I am proud and pleased to tell you that I have a nice little pile of savings to take to Colorado :)
I'll be flying there exactly one week from this exact moment!
Between now and then I have two days left of work and a long weekend of R, R&R in Grafton (rest, relaxation and re-packing). I am expecting the temperatures in Colorado to be significantly different from the current temperatures in Australia...

Friday, 26 January 2007

Location: Sydney, Australia

Today is Australia Day and I am in Sydney, Australia.
On this day in 2006 I was in England
In 2005 I was in Thailand.
In 2004 I was in Canada.
I wonder where I will be on this day in 2008??

Thursday, 18 January 2007

Location: Sydney, Australia

I am retunring to the USA on February 13th, 2007.
I have booked a return flight and am headed to Boulder, Colorado. There is a major attraction there called Brent; a wonderful man I met in Greece last May :)
And some more exciting news to announce on my neglected planetranger site: Peg and Peter and coming to visit us in March/April! Dad has committed to taking 2.5 weeks off work and Peg anxiously booked the flights before he had a chance to revoke his decision.
So, until February 13th I am working my butt off here in Sydney, building my little bank account.
It's all good...

Monday, 25 December 2006

Location: Grafton, Australia

Feliz Navidad, Merry Christmas.
Estoy en la casa de mis padres aqui en Grafton, Australia.
I am at my parents home here in Grafton, Australia.
Buena suerte a Brent que esta esperando para un vuelo a Colorado en Nueva York.
Good luck to Brent who is waiting for a flight to Colorado in New York.
Hasta luego!

Tuesday, 19 December 2006

Location: Sydney, Australia

I have been working days and nights and nights and days.
On Sunday I am travelling up to Grafton with my brother Andrew after we finish work. The whole family will be home for Christmas :)

Friday, 08 December 2006

Location: Sydney, Australia

OK, I am back in Sydney, have a wonderful place to stay in Elizabeth Bay, 2 jobs and not much free time!
It's all good, and I'm very pleased to be earning some money after 8 months of unemployed bumming-about the globe...

Saturday, 02 December 2006

Location: Grafton, Australia

This morning I am flying to Sydney.
For the past three days I have been sorting through old personal belongings and clothing that I'd packed away over 3 years ago.
I have decided to keep almost nothing of what once must have seemed very important to me.
We clutter our lives with so many "things" that we really don't need!

Tuesday, 28 November 2006

Location: Grafton, Australia

Right now I am in Grafton, NSW, Australia.
My brothers Andrew and David met me at the Sydney Airport this morning after my 14hr flight from San Francisco. Peg, Peter, Andrew and I have just driven from Newcastle to Grafton.
It is both strange and familiar to be back.
I will return to Sydney on Saturday.

Thursday, 23 November 2006

Location: San Francisco, USA

A 10 hour drive from Las Vegas to San Francisco for Brent and I.
San Francisco feels like a very special place. Almost like a European city within the USA?
I love climbing and I love travelling.

Monday, 20 November 2006

Location: Las Vegas, USA

I am in Las Vegas climbing in "Red Rocks National Park" with Brent.
I love being outside and I love climbing.
We drive back up to San Francisco on thursday and I fly to Australia on Sunday night.
Argh! Soon I am going to have to work and live a "normal life" again...

Thursday, 16 November 2006

Location: San Francisco, USA

I am in San Francisco!

Monday, 13 November 2006

Location: Salamanca, Spain

Tomorrow I leave Salamanca.
I have one night with Juliet in London before catching a flight to San Francisco.
I have 10 days with Brent in California before catching a flight from San Francisco to Sydney.
I arrive into Sydney on November 28th, 2006.
On this day it will have been just over 2 years since I last stood on Australian soil.
