Dear Friends,

The field work has been completed for this round in Laos.
My visit to Ban Kiukacham was very productive and many new projects
and opportunities for development presented themselves.

~By March 2008, the computer center will be built, including furniture and 10 computers, internet and electricity.
~The kindergarten is running successfully, providing an opportunity for older siblings to stay in school longer while younger siblings are well taken care of by the kindergarten teacher who Chi-Ki funds monthly.
~The sports fund and soccer uniforms have provided the boys and girls with confidence to play many sports and enjoy their new activities with pride.

Goals for 2008:
~We would like to build a much needed well to provide the village with fresh water. This will save time and energy from traveling far to fetch water.
~We would like to build a small hospital in Pak Ou district, where health care is lacking and many villages go untreated when faced with health hazards.
~Computer training, teacher-training, scholarships, workshops
~renovation of leaky roof in the high school, during rainy season its not possible to study as a result.
~7 more computer centers are needed in other villages and districts
~10 more hospitals are needed in smaller villages
~wells can be built in other districts to aid healthcare and socio-economic growth

We hope you chose to help in any way that you can, as this work is very important. If we don't do it, then who will?
Remember, it's not easy, but its rewarding and completely makes sense against all the other contrasts on the face of this planet.
Please email me for further details
bless your heart, sylvia

Dear Friends,

The CHI-KI Children's Fundraising FIESTA in Valencia, Spain was a beautiful collaboration of talents, guests and volunteers. We raised just over 1,000 Euros.

Thank you to José and Café de las Horas for joining together to host this fun party under the light of the full moon and her energy.
The love and compassion flowing through all our hearts will always be our connection and reminder that compassion in action is our only hope of peace on this earth and in our hearts.

i hope to find you again under the beautiful skies of Valencia for another magical evening of love and compassion for our world's children.

I am sending you love and light. SYLVIA

Location: Valencia, Spain

The Event is coming nearer, and preparations are in progress.
Flyers and event buzz are flying around the city and talents are coming forth
as the days go by. People have donated everything from a chocolate cake, to a personal paella. There's a flamenco dancer that will perform with a rámba fusion.

We are going to have a meditation on friday with a short talk at the Buddhist center in Valencia, followed by a small reception.
On saturday is another talk and talent auction; with paella lunch. In the evening will be performing the flamenco dancer and band.
info is on the site.

On tuesday, I plan to take a bit of a rest in Alicante with friends who run a retreat center. They have a large piece of scenic land that houses a meditation center, the main home, and a buddhist retreat house. I will be working a bit for them inthe olive groves and playing with their 1 year old son on the coast.

so far, i'm addicted to cortado (espresso with milk) and paella. ... ;P

Dear Friends,
I have just wrapped up the conference and landed in Valencia the city where, apparently the golden fleece resides.
The week of work at the conference has left me on my death bed. I am sick and recovering at my friend José's house, while preparing for next weeks two day fundraiser for children.
June 1st, will be a talk and meditation for the millions of orphans around the world.
June 2nd will be another talk and paella party with an evening of talents, auction and performers.

June 3. rest.

That is the plan for now. as soon as i am feeling better, i will write more. for now, i am in search of some soft tissues and ceiling theater.

Location: The Hague / Amsterdam, Netherlands

I'm at the International Conference WIO (World Initiative for Orphans) at The Hague, or Den Haag. Registration was bright and early at the Kurhaus Hotel in the center of The Hague; with badge, binder and gift basket in hand, I went back to my friend Masiel's house (she works at the UN here ), and ironed some of my clothes, before heading back to the scheduled speakers. We all met back at the Kurhaus
and private buses drove us to the Peace Palace for the speeches and dinner. It is really beautiful inside and represents our will towards peace and justice for all.

I would cry and sit and wonder why if I had the time, but I don't so I continue on this road to helping the over 400 million orphan's in the world. Asia has more displaced children then Africa; and the amount of parentless and abandoned children is said to rise.
We have failed our kids. It's time to help them.
I'm not saying I will heal the world in this menial life of mine, but what else am I here for but to die trying; and also to share love and kindness with everyone.

Smile and the world will smile with you.
Laugh and the world will laugh with you.
Be the change and the world will follow.
love and light.s.

Location: London, England

IN HINDSIGHT, packing for Europe could have been a bit more researched in terms of weather...
Toronto is balmy and tropical compared to wet, rainy and bone-chilling London England.
Because of my light summer wardrobe, yesterday was my fashion low point. the sock and sandle look I sported around the national gallery was something of a faux pas. socks and sandles! I seamlessly blended with eastern europeans the full day, among them were many people from bosnia-hertzegovina, serbia, poland and slovakia...just to name a few.
Sorry to detour into the superficial world of fashion.
Back on track, I have to say that the National Gallery blew me away. The first painting I laid eyes on was by Correggio, Mercury Venus and Cupid. I got watery eyes from staring at it for an extended period of time. At some point much later, I realized I should move on to other paintings by the likes of Leonard da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Botticelli, Rubens, Gossaert, Bellini, Titian, Rembrandt, Vermeer,Seurat, Van Gogh, and Monet, just to name a few.
I really loved The Adoration of the King by Gossaert, The Dream of Saint Joseph by Philippe de Champaigne (the colors..the yellow!...textures!) , the four elements by Joachim Beuckelaer, Ruben's Minerva (godess of wisdom) conducting the duke of Buckingham to the temple of virtue!! beautiful! Le nain Brothers, Gerrit Van Nonthorst's Christ Before the high Priest ... Caravaggio. And I stood in front of Van Gogh's Sunflowers for a very, very long time. The yellow is so perfect... the painting is perfect.
I couldn't bring myself to even buying a postcard, as it would ruin the memory of the real thing.
I want to paint again.
after hours in the gallery, I got a coffee and befriended several eastern europeans.

In the evening my friend Antonia made a lovely lasagna dinner, and invited our friend Elena from tokyo that we met a long time ago. Rick also joined us, a flaming sweetheart from hong kong who works at miu miu.
Elena gave me some contacts for charity status in the government in london. Today I work on applying for status, and tomorrow I fly to Amsterdam, where I will be staying at Hotel de Paris Amsterdam. cheapest room i could find frankly.

you can check out my photos to the right.....
love and light, s.

Location: Toronto, Canada

It is sunday night, and I am working on CHIKI Brochures in English, French and Spanish. I am still to pack, get ready, and get details in order. But under the restraints of time, I am looking forward to this trip because I know it will be a huge stepping stone for CHIKI and for me. It is my education, my life and my mission. I love what I do. Keep posted for the events to come. I fly on Thursday and land at Heathrow in the morning. Will be looking forward to it all with you by my side.
love and light, syl
