Today, we went to see the Panama Canal. The reason why it was built was because there was lots of cargo boats that need to transport various items from one side of the world to another and the only route available was by going around the southern tip of South America so they built a short cut through Panama.

What a life!!! Then we got to see 4 other sloths and pet the while the instructor told us some amazing facts about sloths, such as, a sloth only ever comes down the tree when it needs too poo, or to wee. Or that when a sloth is in danger, it climbs up it's tree at 2 mph (it's fastest speed), until it's predator is out of reach, so sloths are very safe up in the tree. But if it's still being chased it will attack with it's 20 cm claws at a lightning speed (just as fast as a cat would scratch it's opponents).

Tuesday, 04 March 2014

Sunday, 09 February 2014

I found a sea snake ready to catch it prey, (fish) while it was still camoflarged with the seaweed. It was brown with black rings.

Friday, 07 February 2014

Location: Roatan, Honduras

today we booked a flight to Roatan, an island just off the Carribean coast. When we got there we went to the beach to find out that the sea was crystal clear and the sand was
whitey - yellow. But, about 10 minutes after I got in, I was immediatley stung twice by a jellyfish (but it wasn't serious).

Thursday, 06 February 2014

Location: San Salvador - Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Today we took an extremely comfortable Pullmantur bus that' was more like a spaceship than a bus. We had great seats on the top deck right at the front of the bus. Location: El Tunco, El Salvador

We made our way back to San Salvador this morning, looked around the city and that's about all we did today.

Thursday, 30 January 2014

Location: El Tunco, El Salvador

You wouldn't guess what happened tonight! While i was on the black sand beach, one of my black crocs semmed to have disappeared in the dark, on black sand. But who would have taken just the one? It must have meants that the culprit had lost one and taken mine or just needed the one. We came to the conclusion that it seemed to me a silly dog taking it away just for fun!!!

Wednesday, 29 January 2014

Location: Guatemala City - El Tunco, El Salvador

WE Had to wake up at 5am in order to catch the Tica Bus. But, we were delayed for 4 hours by a teachers strike in the middle of the road, halfway through the journey. We eventually got to San Salvador 10 hours later, but the journey didn't stop there we still had to take a taxi for an hour to El Tunco a mini town that is on the beach and the torists and locals come here to surf on the massive waves. Me and my dad didn't surf but we did stay in the sea and let the waves rock us about , (not me, mainly my dad!). Some waves took us all the way back to the beach and we were at least a kilometre away!

Tuesday, 28 January 2014

Location: Antigua to Guatemala City, Guatemala

This morning, we had to take mini bus to Guatemala City,
(which took 45 mins), where were supposed to get on a Tica bus that would take us to San Salvador, (which is the capital city of El Salvador). And after that we would take a taxi to El Tunco (which is on the seaside of the Pacific ocean), but as Tica bus goes throughout the whole of Central America, there was a strike that delayed the bus meaning that we are going to have to stay for the night and go on the bus tommorow.

Sunday, 26 January 2014

Location: Panahajhel back to Antigua, Guatemala

Today, we took a mini bus that took 90 mins back to Antigua. We are going to stay here for 2 more nights.

Saturday, 25 January 2014

Location: Panahajhel, Guatemala

Today, we took an hour long mini bus to get to Chichicastenango, where a humongous market takes place every Thursday and Sunday. The place has lots of pretty cool artisan and hand made local craft such as key rings, bracelets, mini toys that they make in this coutry and much more. To be honest, the market isn't as special as you'd think it is.

Friday, 24 January 2014

Location: Panahajhel, Guatemala

Today we went to the place that we took to go to Lake Atitlan (Santiago) which is called Panahajhel and we are going to stay there for 2 nights.

Thursday, 23 January 2014

Location: Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

Today we went to town in order to see the famous Maximun - a local deity. Maximun is a local statue that gets paraded around the town and stops off in different flats. They worship him by making offering of cigarettes and humongous beers. They also worship him by drunkily dancing round the statue.

Wednesday, 22 January 2014

Location: Antigua to Lake Atitlan

Today , we left Antigua and headed towards Lake Atitlan, where 4 volcanoes surround the lake. In fact, we were in a hotel that was opposite an ACTIVE VOLCANO!!! The area of the lake we went to is called Santiago.

Sunday, 19 January 2014

Location: Antigua, Guatemala

We had to take a 9 hour bus to Guatemala City today - and it was a really tiring Journey! However, the bus was very comfortable enen though the roads was really mountainous! When we finally arrived, we were so exhausted that our feet could barely carry us! But the journey didn't end there, we still had to get to Antigua in a quick an relaxing Mini bus where the driver drove us to our destination - and we had the whole Mini bus to ourselves. It took 45 minutes and when we arrived in the hotel and the hotel room, we were so surprised to see that the room was gigantic!

Saturday, 18 January 2014

Location: Flores, Guatemala

Today, we went on a really cool Tuk Tuk to and back from Santa Elena. While we were there, we got the tickets for the bus which takes us to Antigua.

Friday, 17 January 2014

Location: Flores, Guatemala

Again,we had ANOTHER lazy day, but we still had a look around the island and chilled out.

Thursday, 16 January 2014

Location: Flores, Guatemala

We did'nt do much today either,
(we did exactly the same as yesterday).

Wednesday, 15 January 2014

Location: Flores, Guatemala

We had a lazy day today, we just had a nice look around town and sat a nice cafe, (and have a nice refreshing swim in the pool).

Tuesday, 14 January 2014

Location: Flores, Guatemala

Today, we headed towards the car company to return the car that we rented a week ago that we drove around Belize for a week. We then got into a mini bus where the driver drove us to the Guatemalan border, which took 2 hours and was a peace of cake! When we got past the border, we took a taxi that took just over an hour, and was a nice and relaxing ride. Luckily, the roads were tons smoother than in Belize, where pot holes were on every road you went. We finally arrived in Flores, which is an island in a massive lake, which is oppossite Santa Elana.

By the time we arrived it was 3:00pm and me and my dad were alreadry jumping in the swimming pool, that has a nice view of the sunset.

Monday, 13 January 2014

Location: Belize Zoo, Belize

Today we left Hopkins and headed for a road side mini-hotel next to the Belize Zoo. We visited twice and the first time we went was in the afternoon - to see all of the Diurnal animals. We saw tons of animals such as: Scarlet Macaws (a bit likeparrot), Crocodiles,
.Harpy Eagles (see picture - they don't look very happy)
.Owls (Barn owls and others)
.Tapiers (a bit like an anteater)
.Spider monkeys
.Howler monkeys
.Smelly hogs - pigs
.Coatimundi's
and lots more Diurnal animals.

We then went on a night tour to see all the nocturnal animals. Animals such as:
.Jaguars
.Black Puma (or sometimes called a Panther's)
.Ocelot (like a big tom cat - but fiercer, A.K.A "Tiger Cat".)
.Margay (a bit like an Ocelot)
.Snakes (see picture - my dad had a Boa Contrictor around his neck!)
and even more animals!
It felt strange walking through the jungle in pitch black when animals are growling, screeching and howling nearby.

Sunday, 12 January 2014

Location: Hopkins, Belize

Today was extremely hot, ant trust me, when I say it's hot ...
IT'S HOT!!!!!!!!!! Nothing much happened today, we did exactly the same as yesterday.

Saturday, 11 January 2014

Location: Hopkins, Belize

Today, I had a really lazy day: swimming in the sea, playing on the beach and whooping my dad's "butt" at cricket ( Ha! Ha! Ha!). That's pretty much all I did today.

Friday, 10 January 2014

Location: Hopkins, Belize

Today, we drove for 2 hours to reach our destination, Hopkins, which is on the seaside. Hopkins is home to the famous Garifuna people. They have a unique history...they are decended from a single slave ship which was shipwrecked in the caribbean hundereds of years ago (google it to find out the full story).

Thursday, 09 January 2014

Location: San Ignacio, Belize

Today, we headed of to Spanish lookout to get the chance to see more Mennonites, in their rural community. Unfortunately, the bridge that leads to Spanish Lookout was covered by the river and there was no chance of our little car getting across. So, we turned back with our heads down in dissapointment, but soon our frown was turned upside down when we caught a glimpse of Hot Mama's Pepper factory... things were about to heat up!!!

We met a local lady named Michelle, who gave us a tour of the garden that grew the fascinating peppers and herbs. We then went around the factory where they turned the chillies into Chilli sauces.

They mash up the chillies with vinegar and salt and store them in big barrels for a minimum of 6 months....this gives them their flavour.

At the end we had the chance to try the different levels of heat by dipping in nacho's. My Dad tried the second hottest pepper in the world and his mouth was on fire until the next day!!!

Wednesday, 08 January 2014

Location: San Ignacio, Belize

Luckily, today i didn't need to be an early bird and wake up early.

Today, we got the chance to see some Black Howler Monkeys in their natural habitat at the Community Baboon Sanctuary, (see pictures). They have extremely long and furry black tails that can grip on to branches that allows them to swing from branch to branch with ease. What's really fascinating is the unique way that they mark their territory. As their name suggests "Howler Monkeys"can produce a bellowing howl that can be heard a mile away. Each and every morning each group of Howler Monkeys howl to let other Howler Monkeys and the world know that this is their territory. Finally, we arrived at San Ignacio.

Tuesday, 07 January 2014

Location: Orange Walk- Belize, Belize

Today, i had to wake up at 6am in order to board the boat that would take us to Belize City- the mainland (see picture).

45 minutes later, we got off the boat and went to rent a car- to drive to Orange Walk. This car will take us around Belize for the next week.(See picture).
1 hour and a half later, we finally arrived at Orange Walk, and by this time, we were all absolutely starving ... so we found a cheap chinese resturant.

There is quite a large community of chinese in Belize. However, not as large as the community of Mennonite, who are the real reason we came to Orange Walk.

Mennonites are a religous community that origanilly came from the Netherlands in the 1600's (400 years ago). They don't accept any form of technology nor mechanization such as electricity, cars, etc... this means that you'd have to forget your 3ds', ipads, computers and so on. In fact, we got the chance to actually meet plenty of them today.
Later on, we pulled to the side of the road and bought two bags of peanuts from a Mennonite.
Coicidently, my dad is eating his second bag right now as i am writing this... no, now he's finished them.

Monday, 06 January 2014

Location: Caye Caulker, Belize

Today, I started off with a nice and delicious breakfast. Soon after, me and my dad set off in to town to explore a bit more. First off, we cycled towards the bakery where we ate one of Belize's famous foods - Jonny Cake (see picture). Jonny Cake is a flat but very filling coconut bread - type cake.
On the way back, we passed the islands' only school having their morning break. I saw about 300 kids racing around the field and playground at the same time!!!

Saturday, 04 January 2014

Location: Caye Caulker, Belize

Today, I started off with a new thing to me called cayaking, which is a bit like canoeing, but the Cayak and the way you paddle is different.

Hi Dylan
How are you? You seem to be enjoying yourself and seeing plenty of things.
Bet it was funny hearing the howler monkeys, they make such a noise don't they? Probably it was because they thought dad was going to pinch all their food!
What is the weather like? It raining here not too cold but dull.

Well I'm off to work speak to you soon.

Tattie xxx
Response: Hi Tatie, i'm feeling really excited because, in about half an hour, i shall be heading off to Tikal - where the largest Mayan temple in the world is. You're probably right about my dad nicking the Howler monkeys food, because he seems to have gained some weight since then! The wheather is very hot at times, but yesterday it was pouring down all day! At least it's sunnier than it is in England.
