Location: Nottingham, UK
The famous Robin Hood location! Celebrated the engagement of cousin Monray & Bianca. Left London at 3pm and got to Nottingham round 6pm where we stayed at a cosy hotel - Thanks for organising Megan.
Went up with a huge transmobile! I mean huge, but it was great fun had amongst the 6 travellers.
Once again! CONGRATS Monray & Bianca
Location: London, UK
Day 12 London, England
The morning we headed to Brugge in Belgium for a walking tour and eat the talked about waffles with strawberries & cream oh and how can we forget, the CHOCOLATES! Yum, this really is the BEST! Then back to the ferry and home, sweet home.
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Days 10/11 Amsterdam Netherlands
We travelled through the flat pastures of the Netherlands to Amsterdam stopping over at the cheese and clog factory. The evening I experienced the renown Red Light District and went partying.
The next day we visited the Anne Frank's House and went shopping for all you peeps in SA. Didn't get to go to the Rijks and Van Gogh museums :-( Ended the eve with dinner at the Famous Sea Palace Chinese Restaurant and thereafter a canal cruise soaking up the unique bohemian atmosphere, sipping on wine and eating snacks and being romantic. Had to do the Nethlands dance on the boat where you hold your drink against your ear and one arm on the shoulder of the person in front of you and dance in a circle. fun.
Location: Rhine Valley, Germany
Day 9 Rhine Valley, Germany
Absolutely spectacular scenery on our River Rhine cruise, seeing numerous medieval castles scattered along the hilltops. Saw the BIGGEST cuckoo clock in the world. The eve we stayed at a 12th century castle overlooking the Rhine Valley. Beautiful!
Location: Munich, Germany
Days 7/8 Munich, Germany
This morning we travelled through Austria, stopping at Innsbruck to see the famous 15th century Golden Roof and Olympic Ski Jump, before continuing to the Bavarian capital of Munich. The touristy places we saw were the Old Town Hall, Church of Our Lady and the famous Glockenspiel in the Marienplatz. What was really a moving experience and hair raising was our visit to Dachau memorial camp where the Jews were kept under Hitler's rule.
The evening we visited one of the famous Bavarian Beerhalls. Prost! Little René drinking a litre beer. The jug was nearly as big as me! At this time of our trip, Nathan had fallen ill owing to one of the guys catching a flu and spreading it to everyone like wild fire. I think out of the 46, only 10 stayed healthy over our European Tour ... :-(
Location: Venice, Italy
Days 5/6 Venice Italy
This was the BEST! Left Lucerne and stopped over in Verona, where Romeo and Juliet fell in love and held onto Juliet's right breast for good luck! Also had (apparently the best in the world) Gelati ice-cream. This was on our way to Venice. Walked over the famous Rialto Bridge (one of the oldest bridges in Europe and great flea market there), also went onto the St. Marks Basilica Square (didn't go in, the queues were endless) and visited a couple of other touristy places. Venice is beautiful with it's narrow streets and canals, (and yep just had to keep the tradition and got lost in Venice). Drank espresso's at a fancy hotel overlooking the Grand Canal and definitely did the romantic gondola ride (unfortunately without the seranade). Oh, our tour leader decided we should have a pyjama party at the campsite's club that eve. Absolute a blast!
Location: Lucerne, Switzerland
Day 3/4 Lucerne, Switzerland
Left Paris early the morning of 8 July and travelled with our trusted coach towards Lucerne and on the way stopped at the spectacular Chateau of Fontainebleau, before entering the wonderful world of beauty, serenity and clean air in Lucerne and the famous alps. We toured the town taking in some tourist attractions and then took a beautiful relaxing cruise on Lake Lucerne towards the ever steep railway for our alpine excursion on Mount Pilates which is 7000 feet. Spent some time up on the Mount and then took the little cable cars down but stopped halfway to partake of the all Swiss sport .... TOBOGANY! Then we continued with our 45 min trip down the mountain to the city.
Our accommodation was little log cabins in a caravan park ....
Location: Paris, France
Days 1/2 - Paris, France
Nathan, Rudi, our brothers (Talon & Wayne) and I were up at 4am and departed London at 7am for the white cliffs of Dover (WOW, absolutely beautiful!) for our 12 day tour round Europe. We crossed by ferry to France (slept through, not much too see, just open land - something like when you're travelling to George in SA) and then we hit the capital Paris the eve. Saw Paris by night ;-). The next day we went to The Sacré-Coeur basilica in Montmartre, Place de la Concorde, the famous avenue Champs Elysee (where the Tour de France also finishes their race), Eiffel Tower (we went up and the heights!), Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum (Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa ....) and enjoyed a champagne picnic dinner under the Eiffel Tower (this included cavair, shrimps and much more, oh and the champagne with strawberries). After dinner, took a cruise on the River Seine cruise. C'est magnifique!

Me and my hubby on our 1 year anniversary!
