Location: Seoul

I can't believe that a month has gone by already. It has been such a great time so far. I have settled quite well into my studio style palace (smaller than my room that I slept in in Edmonton). I just invested in a coffee maker and a toaster oven, so it is starting to feel more like a home than a shed. Thank you Mom and Dad for mailing me Tim Horton's coffee (I LOVE YOU!) I have been spending my weekends at Tasha's place with her family. I am so glad to finally spend time with her again. It has been so long. Her and Jeff have been so good to me and have introduced me to many great people so far. Tasha's sister, Kris, is here as well.

My school is about a 20 minute walk away from my apartment. It is located on Seoul Women's University Campus. I teach Grade 2 and Grade 5 C level (the kids who have VERY little english. It has been quite challenging at times. Some days the kids are angels... and some days I feel like walking out of class. I am looking at this as a way to learn how to be more patience with people. :) The teachers at the school are great. There are 9 foreign teachers and 6 korean teachers in the English Department. I get along great with the Korean teachers. We are planning a girl's night out this weekend. It will be interesting to see the Korean night clubs. I have a "boyfriend" at the school named James (I gave him his English name) who is the Phys Ed teacher. He doesn't speak much english at all, but we are working on it. I give him small lessons everyday at lunchtime. Every Monday, we all get together to play a little soccer outside.

I haven't really done too much sight seeing yet. I went to Seodamun (spelling?) Prison with Tasha and her mom a couple of weeks ago. It was quite disturbing in some areas. I also went on a Ferry Boat ride down the Han River. I have been going for walks everyday since I got here as I cannot afford to go to the gym right now. It costs about 150 US for 3 months. I am dying to get back to the gym, but the walks have been very relaxing after a stressful day with the kids. This weekend, I am going to hike one of the many mountains that surround Seoul. I started rugby a couple of weeks ago and it went great. Most of the girls are from Canada and they have little to no experience, so it should be good times!!!! They are planning a trip to Beijing in May and a trip to Thailand in July.

A couple of weeks ago, I was coming home from a night out at 3 am and witnessed a car hit and kill somebody a couple of blocks away from my apartment. It was quite shocking. I didn't know what to do. I didn't have a cell phone and no one speaks english. The cab driver who hit the guy got out of the car and started shaking the guy he hit (who was obviously dead since the cabby was driving very fast). I get very nervous to cross busy streets now.

On St. Patty's Day, I went to Big Rock (Owned by a guy who lived in Calgary) with Steve and Heyyoung (a great couple that I met through Tasha and Jeff) and then headed to Itaewon (party sreet in Seoul). It was a great night, but the bars were waaaaaaaaaaaay to busy.

Thats all for now! I hope all is well with everyone! Love ya!

Looks like you're doing great. I am so proud of you for having the courage to pick up a go, way to live your dreams.
By the way a little interesting bit of info just released today - the Alberta Government and Korea (not sure which N or S, probably South) just signed a contract with our Province and starting July we will be seeing an inflow of some 8 400 Koreans to our province. Cool how things are connecting. Anyhow, I miss you and just so you know whenever I will walk down in the river valley I'll be thinking of you, your jogging suit and your endless determination.
Response: Thanks! I don't know who this is from though?!?!??! I have an idea and I miss you too! Hope you are doing well!

Hey Jamie,
Nice to hear from you! Wow what a place you are in! It looks so different from home, good for you for taking such a huge risk! I have about 4 more weeks or so until my due date, so really just sitting on pins and needles waiting for IT to happen. Take care, thinking of you, and will talk to you soon!

Hey Jame-Dog...
I am glad to see that you are having a great time down there. I miss seeing you. I have been pretty busy over here. My sister and I started going through my dad's house today. It was pretty cool to learn new things about him, but I also shed a few tears. It's sinking in more and more each day. I cant wait until you come back in the summer, we definitely have to get together. Maybe we can go down to Sylvan Lake for a weekend, and tan on the beach. Look forward to more responses...
Luv ya Jamie.
Response: JILLY!!!!!!! I miss our fridays at the Brewhouse... I will be back in July to visit for amonth. We will have to hit the beach the whole time. There is no sun here. :(
