Hi All,

I know that it has been a very long time. I have been crazy busy etc. etc. Well I am nearing the end of my studies. Even though I am nearly finished lectures, I will be working on an individual project for some time.

I am working in a school here in Sydney teaching music to primary children for two and a half days a week. Its a nice job and the kids are great. Busy getting ready for Christmas concert here now.

Well I have booked a flight to bring me home just before Christmas. I am looking forward to catching up with everyone and it will be quite a while before I consider working again.

I have put some new pictures up. I have got so lazy in recent months and have left my camera at home a lot. I intend to put some more up before I leave so I can give you a better picture of the life I lead here.

The weather here is great and I am enjoying the sun. Some days its only in the twenties but we'll have to live with that.

I am horse riding every week now and I love it. I am a slow learner but I really enjoy it all the same.

Thats the news. Thanks to all of you who have been so great in keeping in touch. It has been great getting your emails, texts etc.

Take care

Hi All,

I arrived in Queenstown today. It is amazing. The airport is the size of Knock Airport in the middle of this amazing mountainous landscape. It was just refreshing to be in this landscape. Australia is beautiful but New Zealand is breathtaking.

I will post some pictures soon

Hello All

I know its been a very long time. I have had a couple of extremely busy but satisfying months. I am now installed at UNSW studying Social Development. I love it! I am up to my eyeballs in assignments but I have no complaints. I am also working for twenty hours a week in Fosters Australia in their wine business. The busy open plan office is a nice change from what I am used to!

Thank you all for your texts and emails. Its wonderful to hear from home!

Happy Easter to you all

I have found a lovely place to live and I look forward to the many guests that are going to COME ON HOLIDAYS. Keep in touch and don't forget me!

Hi All,

I left Deni. Very Sad to leave. Had a wonderful time. So many wonderful things happened there. We ended up in Brisbane two days and 1500k later. We were refused entry to Dubbo zoo on the grounds that there was a mad man loose in the area! The only day ever! After having done three trips to Dubbo without seeing the zoo. I am starting to think that I will never get to see it!

Had a vey hot Christmas day. Santa came to Brisbane and Margaret's children were with us to enjoy the morning. I was never so glad to see a thunder and lightning storm as I was that day! It gave us great relief!

Thanks for all the texts and good wishes.

Hi All,

I am in Deniliquin in New South Wales. Deniliquin is a town of 8,000 people near the Victoria border. I was to work as you may remember on a casual basis from Goondiwindi on the Queensland border. However, I got a call from the Dept of Ed to say that there was full time work available for me here in Deniliquin and after two days travelling I arrived here last Friday (11th November). I am relief teacher for the three public schools till Christmas.

Since posting my last pictures I was in Brisbane, Towoomba and Goondiwindi. I have some photos and will post them soon. Debbie and Camilla have gone North of Brisbane on the Oz experience but and you can catch up with their many adventures on http://www.planetranger.com/camillasidford/inde....
I now own a big red bus (a ford falcon car really) which is twenty one years old and has a four litre engine! I will post the picture soon too.

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Hi All,

It's been a while I know!

A quick synopsis of the last two weeks: We met up with my cousin Camilla. This was a great surprise to know that I had a cousin from England rambling around this country as well. Her name is Camilla and she is extremely quiet! NOT.

Debbie went to Ayers Rock and myself and Camilla went to the Blue Mountains. Then we said a tearful goodbye to Camilla and we went off to Adelaide. There I met up with some other long lost relatives. Jenny and Hugh my mother's sister and her husband looked after us extremely well. It was lovely to be back in a family home again. We met up with my cousin Morag and her family. It was a lovely trip and thank you all in Adelaide for your wonderful hospitality.

Then we came to Melbourne. Here we have staying with my cousin Toby and his girlfriend Bindi. We have had a ball! We all went to the International Rules test. Toby and Bindi were very kind and didn't rub in the Ozzie success. Then they took us off to Derby day for the Melbourne Cup Festival! We went all day and all night. Thank you to Toby and Bindi and it'll take some day and night out in Ireland to top the day you showed us!

Tomorrow we are heading back to Sydney. From there Debbie is making her way up to Brisbane to meet Camilla and they are going on up the coast together. I am heading in the direction of Goondiwindi! I am going to try out Rural Oz for a while!

Well we'll keep you posted!

Love and God Bless

Hi All,

We arrived in Sydney last Thursday morning. We were instantly hit by the cold! We were so used to the warmth in Asia. We have spent most of the week trying to get ourselves set up. Today we found an apartment. We wont be moving in for another ten days or so but we are delighted with it. Before we settle down to work we have a little more touring to do. Debbie's off to Ayers rock and Perth next week. I am meeting a long lost cousin here in Sydney. The following week we are both going to Adelaide to meet more of my rellies (Ozzie's abbreviate everything!) and then on to Melbourne to cheer on the Irish at the International Rules competition against the Ozzies!

Keep the messages coming. We love to get them.

Location: Chiang Mai - Northern Thailand, Thailand

Hi All,

Today when we tell you that we are safe and well, it takes on a new meaning!

We arrived in Chiang Mai after a marathon TWENTY HOUR train journey. It was supposed to be fourteen on an overnight sleeper which would have been bearable! So we spent a relaxing evening at night markets and pubs in Chiang Mai!

This morning we decided to hire Motor Bikes. After five minutes I fell off with mine on to a relatively busy road! Luckily when I picked myself up, I only had a few scratches. The locals who always show great concern for foreign tourists insisted I go to the hospital.

I arrived at the hospital and was taken by wheechair to see doctor. He gave me seven stitches and sent me on my merry way. I was treated like a queen! No qeues! Full attention. I could actually say I enjoyed the experience!

The tuc tuc driver who brought me to the hospital remained with us for the rest of the day and showed us one of the best days we've had on our journies so far. We have lots of photos featuring many wonderful animals of the two-legged, four-legged and bow-legged variety from the last four days which we have spent in Thailand. We'll upload them asap.

Location: Bangkok - Khao Sarn Road, Thailand

Hi All,

We have arrived in Khao Sarn Road. I was here six years ago and I have to say that there is a world of difference in the place. It's more modern, a million times cleaner and very much more western!

We can receive texts but unfortunately we are relying on the old webtext to text people back. So be patient!

Despite what we were told about internet access here in Bangkok, we are finding it very slow! After a long wait and the use of two computers I have managed to upload a handful of pictures taken over a week ago in the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) in Vietnam. You might have to wait for the dozens more we have taken since!

Love and God Bless to all!

Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia

Hi All,

We're here in Siem Reap. We have lots of photos but internet connections is too slow and queues for computers are too long to try and upload some. Tomorrow we go to Bangkok.

Today I went to a floating village on Tonle Sap lake. It was amazing. It is now the wet season and the rainforest that exists in this lake was nearly covered over except for the tops of these amazing trees. In the dry season there is a thriving rainforest there. Many people live on this lake and they travel by boat to school, church, temple etc. The markets (small boats) travel to them. A great experience all told.

Earlier today and yesterday we have been visiting some of the many temples that are in this area. They are vast and amazing! An archaelogists heaven.

Well that's the news for now! Hopefully I will get to upload some photos soon!

Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Hi All

We arrived in Phnom Penh in Cambodia yesterday after an arduous bus journey! The countryside is littered with houses on stilts because of frequent flooding! A very poor but beautiful country!

Today we visited the King's palace and the museum in the morning. In the afternoon we had a very solemn time visiting the genocide museum and then the killing fields. A most extrodinary aternoon. It's shocking beyond belief what one human can do to another!

Tomorrow we are off to Siem Reap and to Ankhor Watt (the largest capital in the world in the 12th and 13th century).

We'll keep you all posted!

Hi All, We're in Saigon.

Unfortunately, getting the many pictures we have taken since our last update seems to be a bit of a problem. Bad connections, bad computers etc.

We visited the Christina Noble Foundation headquarters for children today. It was something else! She and her foundation have achieved so much.

Tomorrow we are off to Cambodia for a five day tour! From there we will go to Bangkok!

We will keep you all updated. Thanks for all the messages.

Location: HOI AN, Vietnam

Hi all

We are in Hoi An today. Hoi An is one of the many towns dotted along the route from Hanoi to Ho Chi Min City. What's different about this town is that there are hundreds of shops where you can get clothes tailor made for you. Talking to other travellers, we hear that the quality is of a very high standard. They will duplicate any clothes from magazine pictures etc that they see. Obviously we had a few ideas and have purchased a few items. While the value is great, it is very tempting to get lots and they will tempt you!

On Monday we are off to the seaside town of Nha Trang. We are very tired and we need a couple of days rest beside the sea! ( I hear you all sighing in sympathy!)

Well that's us for now.

Hi All,

We went on a tour to Halong Bay in the Gulf of Tonkin! ( The Vietnam Sea) There were fourteen people on our tour! They were a lovely group. Jacinta and Rhona from Tullamore were also on the tour! We had a mighty laugh. Debbie had another night owl to accompany her into the small hours of the morning in Rhona!

We are off to Sapa a mountainous region in the North West of Vietnam tonight on an all night train. We will be very close to the Chinese border!

I have some more photos up! Keep an eye on some of the old photo pages I am adding and ammending to them all the time!

Keep messaging, emailing and texting folks!

Location: Hanoi, Vietnam

Xin chao from Hanoi!

Well we've just come through three different countries in less than twenty four hours! Arriving in Hanoi was a bit different than most arrivals. We negotiated some seats on a bus to our hotel. Later we struggled to find someone with enough English to help us get down town. When we got a rough map of an internet (printed out by a man who was enamoured by Debbie and her blond locks and brazen good looks) we got on the back of a motor bike and found ourselves amidst a mass of motor cylists heading down town.

Down town we were able to watch an open air circus type concert from a bar balcony. We have now booked a trip to Ha long bay where we can do some Kayaking and boating etc. We leave on Friday morning and we will be back on Sunday.

Thanks for all your messages.

Me and Deb have arrived in KL! I am having some problems uploading photos at computers here. They're not too fond of me lifting their PC's to find where I connect the lead. Dia Dhaoibh, a chairde uilig.

Well here we are in Singapore. After a very long flight and a long wait in Heathrow.

We are lodging at a very desirable location in Singapore that is if you wish to earn a living from bringing men home at all hours of the day and night. It was recommended in the guide book. Unfortunately local taxi drivers are not so keen to recommend it. Tomorrow we will move to a more central hotel. However I don't think we'll be as much a part of the action!
Loads of pictures to upload however there is no option to do so at this internet cafe!

Location: Ballinrobe, Ireland

Well I was up in Belmullet and have returned having driven all around Mayo trying to find Knock. Great catch up with Eithne, Tim and all the gang. I was at the races on the strand and I have never seen anything like the crowds. I'm telling any of you that are in the west of Ireland next year. Go to the Geesala races! The sunday before the 15th August. Racing on the strand. Drinks from a marquee. (liable to run out though. They had to go to Ballina for more bottles while I was there. ) Coutry Music. Merry Go Rounds slides and all sorts for the kids and you can buy all sorts from the many stalls. If you are actually going for the racing it's a sight to behold the horses running on the beach.

The Ballinrobe choir sang in Knock on Mon 15th Aug. I want to congratulate Sr Francis and all there aren't many places in Ireland where the choir is so nice.

I am uploading more pictures.

Response: Hi Sarah,

It's great to hear from you! I am in Sydney starting a masters in good ole Community Development. Can you believe it back to where I came from. I'll be using your expertise and experience a lot. So be prepared to be called on from time to time.

I have quite a lot of assignments in the next couple of months. It'll be hectic but I'm happy that way. I am working in a pub some nights and tomorrow I am starting in some part time office work. That should be nice. I'll be able to get a handle on my filing and admin skills. As you remember they were never my strong point.

I can't believe the girls are so grown up. 'Like models' I believe from other sources. I bet Mike is up to all sorts of mischeif. I still think of the scooby snacks he fed me the last time I saw you. Tell Josie I thought he was forty years ago!!!

My very best to your Mum and Dad. Your mum especially is a bit of a legend amongst many a tourist and traveller who found themselves in Belmullet during her reign as queen of the Western Strands.
