WEEK ONE: of Aoraki polytechnic Outdoor Recreation course.
What a week and what an introduction to the course. The first day consisted of getting to know everyone in the first, second and thrid year. We did this by playing name games and running around on the field near our classroom. The next day we had to complete a 5.5km "fun" run in the local park. I did better then what I expect with a time of 34mins 14secs. I think next term we have to run it again and better our time. I believe we also have to complete a half a marathon at the end of the year. After lunch we paired off into groups combined first, second, thrid years and did an teasure hunt thing around town, lots of fun. The next day was spent orgainising our packs for out tramp and overnight camp to Mount Sommers, we were told to pack lots of warm clothes as we would be getting wet. On the Thrusday 8am we set of to Mount Sommers bags packed, spirits high. The tramp started off a very steep incline, with lots of rest breaks in between. The sceanry was amazing, with tramped onto a hut where we had lunch, then arrived at our camping destination at 6pm. After we set up our tents had supper, then crashed out after a long days hike. The next day we were up early to go canyoning. Once we were in the canyon we had to absail down a small waterfall to the water below. It was freezing I think temp would be 12 degrees. From there we jumped in water holes, slide down rocks and scrambled over boulders till we reached the carpark where the van was waiting.
