Diary Entries

Thursday, 25 February 2010

Location: Queenstown, New Zealand

The last diary entry boohoo, we've really enjoyed writing it! Will be lovely for us to look back on here as we already can't remember what we've done and when! In Queenstown now for the last three days, booked a lovely hotel online over here and just when we thought it couldn't gey any better..............Tom manages to talk his way round the manager in true 'rep' style (hehe!) and get us an upgrade to a LUXURY PENTHOUSE APARTMENT! Woohoo! Its bigger than our house, with a private outside terrace with a massive dining table on it! We were gobsmacked, all those years at Depuy for Tom have been worth it with persuasive abilities like that! Have taken lots of piccies of it, only bad thing is we dont want to leave it to go out around Queenstown! Really picturesque here and some lovely shops Ive dragged Tom around before he does his bunjee jump tomorrow down 134m! He must be mad, needless to say I am just a watcher. Dont worry Trish I will get him to ring you like he said when he has finished it! Anyway, thank you again so much for keeping us updated on everything at home for the past 5/6 weeks and we really appreciate all the messages. We have really missed everyone, don't know how people do this traveling lark for 6 months or a year! See you next week! Love always Lyndz and Tom xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Location: Greymouth, New Zealand

Well, well, well so much to tell you! We've forgotten where we've been over the past few days after the travelling but will try and remember! In the South Island now, travelled down from Roturua and stayed in Taupo for a day where Tom persuaded Lyndsey to hire some mountain bikes to get to the hot springs in the mountains and see the National Park. Well 5 and a half hours later we will still pedalling away! Exhausted! Hehe was well worth it though and felt good at the end of it, Marvin would be proud! Even though we couldn't walk the next day, the natural hot springs were lovely, had a dip in for a while at the side of the river to relax our muscles with some of the locals - what a different world they live in x Went down to Wellington for the next night before we crossed on the ferry for three days of gorgeous sunshine in the holiday resort of Nelson. Stayed with Tom's friend James who he played footie with in America in Wellington so was lovely for him to have a catch up and we took him for a curry to thank him for the bed for the night. One of the few times we have eaten out over here at night actually throughout the whole trip - Tom has proven he is just as good a cook over here as he is at home, and I have cooked..........bugger all hehe! Although my organisational skills have come up trumps the past few weeks moving around from place to place - mumsie would be proud! Just when you thought I would have learnt about National Park trips we decided to try another one yesterday called Abel Tasman - no bikes this time just a 4 hour walk! We got the water taxi into it and saw the dolphins and seals, then went kayaking for a few hours around the bay and walked back. Was lovely for the majority as it was a beautiful day and there were a few secluded beaches to stop of at as we made our way through to have a dip in the sea. That leads us to today! We have made our way quite far down the West Coast in the wonder of our little white Nissan Sunny to Pancake Rocks and Greymouth for the night and then we aren't too far away from the two Glaciers for tomorrow. Can't believe our last week has come already! Only 6 sleeps left before the trip home and just Queenstown/Milford Sound to visit for the last three or four days after our Glacier stop. We have managed to do so many wonderful things and have made lots of memories but looking forward to seeing everybody again soon. If we dont get chance to write again in the next week, will see you all back in England! Love and miss you so much, tata for now! L and T xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Location: Roturua, New Zealand

Well what a busy three days! We're exhausted but have fitted in everything we wanted to do, so going to have a well earned rest tonight! We went on the Mouri Experience Night which was fab - they did the Haka and everything, Lyndsey was soooo excited! They cooked us an authentic Mauri meal too on the 'Hangi'. We have seen lots of volcanic terrain over the past few days and even a volcano eruption 20 metres high this morning, along with the boiling mud pools. We had a lovely Valentine's Day and had a mud bath and spa day together after a visit to the markets - Tom had his face painted with the kiddies - as only my dearest Tom would! The best moment of all was when we went 'Luging' - down a hill on a go kart type thing without an engine - a New Zealand invention apparently! And guess what..........LYNDSEY WON THE RACE!!!!!! Tom is absolutely mortified haha! Our last day in Roturua today before we move on tomorrow so we have just been whitewater rafting in the river; the first time either of us have been. It was brill, so glad we did it and managed not to capsize down the largest waterfall that you are allowed to raft down at 8 metres high! Brave or what! Anyway, tired tired tired so off for a relax now. So lovely to hear all your news from home, love you all lots xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Location: Waitomo, New Zealand

Ello ello! Here we are in Waitomo, New Zealand - the home of the underground caves - our mums would love it here! We've moved on today from Auckland, had a good look round there yesterday and went across to the nearby Waikeke Island which was lovely. We went on a wine tour in the sunshine where they took you round all the vinyards and gave us loads to try - we had a great day! Think the girls would love it here hehe! Today we've been down into the caves with the gloworms and off to Roturua tomorrow where the real New Zealand Mauris live. Looking forward to seeing how they live and going on a night trip to see their live cultural dancing/Haka and have a traditional New Zealand dinner. We are staying at the mo at a Backpacker village and its really nice, loads of people here our age so we are hoping to have a few drinks in the bar tonight and be sociable! We've got a nice hotel for the next three nights in Roturua and then Lyndsey has been persuaded to live in a campervan for a few days as it seems the best way to do the next bit after that!!! Bed you never thought you'd see the day haha!!! Still it hasnt happened yet so time to change my mind, although they are nice inside! It seems to be the only thing we havent done to get a 'true' experience and there are no cars to hire like in Melbourne. Will keep you posted! Hope all is well at home, we are missing you and cant wait for you to see all the pics - the site doesnt let us upload many. Sending lots of New Zealand hugs and kisses T and L xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Hi Everyone! Just at the airport in Melbourne ready to go to Auckland, New Zealand - can't believe we are leaving Australia already! We have arrived at the airport two hours early as Lyndsey has looked at the wrong time on the flight passes - oops! Still, first mishap so not doing too bad eh! Melbourne is fantastic, I think it might just be our fave place in Australia after the Hamilton Island. We have managed to fit everything in that we wanted to do here and more in our little rental car! Bit worried when it was a Toyoto but all was fine haha! We had a good look round the city on the first day and travelled down to St Kilda beach where there was a big festival going on so that was lucky! Lots of drinks and drag queens - think it was their version of the mardi gras. Had a fab time and made friends on the beach - Tom got a few comments so he kept grabbing my hand! He'll kill me if he sees this bit!! Then we did the Great Ocean Road drive which was unbelievable, so many places to stop off at and see - Torquay, Lornes, Port Campbell and the views of the ocean where just like the pictures! Had lovely weather again here so we could see right out to sea, though was a bit nervous on some of the cliff edge roads - especially with Tom's driving (that's for you mum!) We stayed up there for a night and then drove back yesterday to ride on Puffing Billy (Australia's oldest steam train!) through the rainforest and then to see the penguin parade at dusk - my fave! There were about 600 little penguins all walking up the beach towards us to their burrows , they were soooooo cute. They wouldn't let you take pictures unfortunately but we tried to sneak one! Anyway, ready for the off now, next stop Auckland We are there for two nights deciding which route to take and going to book some accommodation in advance through the North Island. Missing everyone so much but having the time of our lives x Big hugs and kisses Lyndz and Tom x

Location: Sydney, Australia

On the third stroke now - in Sydney! Have enjoyed our first day in Sydney with a trip up the Observatory, then to Sydney Opera House, Sydney Aquarium, The Rocks, Darling Harbour and finally the Olympic Park all covered - phew! We're feeling very touristy so got up early and have just got back now by ferry to our hotel (its 9 at night!) It is even better than we imagined and a little strange as the Summer holidays have finished for the Aussies now so they are all on their way to work as we are going out for the day! Weather nice again, although it rained a little this morning early on. My fave part of the day was the ferry at twilight as they take you past the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House and its all lit up and looking lovely. Tom's fave bit was the Lindt Chocolate Cafe I think! He licked his dish after the Hot Choc desert haha! Have booked on the Harbour Bridge climb for Friday (dont worry mum you are strapped to the ropes and instructors!) and off to the Blue Mountains tomorrow. Missing everyone so much, wish you were here! Keep us posted, love, hugs and squillions of Aussie kisses L and T xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Location: Hamilton Island, Australia

Hello from the beautiful Hamilton Island! We are in paradise, cant believe our eyes at the hotel, its beautiful, despite quite a few tropical showers. No sunburn here so far so thats good, but a bit worried about our non-existent tans!! haha x The island is so surreal, there are only two hotels on here, got a golf buggy to drive around the whole island (Tom got very excited at that!) and booked to sail out to the Barrier Reef to go diving tomorrow, cant wait. Our room has such a fab view from the balcony out to the sea, we just keep standing out there speechless! Had our breakfast with the Koalas this morning and I had a cuddle and a few piccies taken holding one which was amazing, though a little smelly! haha! We then tried to be good and had a game of tennis, think it is the 'in' sport over here at the mo with the Australian Open in Melbourne so we are trying to get in the spirit and fly the flag for Murray tonight! Promise we will try and upload piccies before we leave for Sydney on Tues, so lovely to here all your news from home. Missing you all, lots and lots of love Lyndz and Tom xxxxxxxxxxx

Location: Broadbeach, Australia

G'day! We are here at last and having a great time, long flight but much better than we thought as we slept for ten hours. All was going well until we finally reached Brisbane - without my suitcase! It hadn't even left Heathrow! Poor me! Tom is very proud of me as I didn't cry, I was brave and it has arrived now two days late. Luckily I had some clothes in Tom's case so it hasnt affected our holiday too and we've had a good laugh about it in the end - my poor mum has been worrying though I think! Anyway, as true Brits do, we are burnt to a crisp haha! Despite the factor 30 it is ridiculously hot but lovely. It was Australia Day yesterday so was really busy and lots to do and today we have been to Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo - crikey! Had a fab time feeding all the kangaroos and koalas and took lots of piccies for Joshie. Managed to see lots of Broadbeach and Surfer's Paradise so far but still lots to do. Off now for a large beverage, lots of love to all at home. Mwah! xxxxxxxx

Am missing you loads now, can't wait to see you both at weekend, although am not sure you're going to look better for the ?? rest ?? Five and a half hours in the saddle, you must be mad - well suppose it's good for toning up for the old leg and thigh muscles - for Tom that is !!! Hope the camera is still going strong, it's had an awful lot to deal with these last few weeks, you'll need a full room just for displaying photos - perhaps you could set up an exhibition for friends and family when you return. Don't worry about Joshie not remembering you, he'll soon have you legging it around the house and playing hide and seek again before you know it (his usual place is behind the curtains now - every time he hides of course!!). Louie is soooooooo much bigger now and smiles and chuckles all the time, bet you can't wait to see them both. So for your last few days just make the most, as you travel around from coast to coast, on Sunday I'll be your loving host, as we all get together for a slap-up roast.
With love always, Mum xxx

From Mum
Hello there you two - oh my god, underground caves, I'm hyperventilating here at the thought of it! Can't have a go at Tom's driving anymore if he managed to keep his eyes on the road when negotiating the cliff edges. I like the sound of Puffing Billy in the rainforest and would have loved to see the penguin parade - so would Josh. Nephews just as adorable as ever, had a lovely afternooon with Josh on Wednesday, he was so so good. He's staying at Stu and Laura's tonight so looking forward to hearing how he goes on. Well I don't know what to say about the impending campervan experience - make sure the doors are locked properly. You could always take it in turns to stay awake and keep a look-out if you felt nervous, but am sure it will be fine - rather you than me! Neil's been checking the house and everything's fine. Hope you're keeping up with your washing !Missing you loads and loads, Love always, Mum xx
Response: Hi mumsie - not to worry campervan is off hehe! We spent loads of times checking prices against cars and hotels last night and it actually works out dearer so no point really! Im secretly gutted hehe! Glad the boys are ok, missing you all so much, think Puffing Billy was definitely your thing mumsie and Josh's, how was he at Stu and Lauras? That must be where you are now then - just tried to give you a ring at home and wondered where you were on a Friday night. They have a skype wencam so was going to test it but am sure there will be another one in Roturua. Anyway, off to catch the bus in a bit so will try and speak to you again, probably Sunday morning when everyone is there. Miss and love you millions L and T xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

How popular are you two?!? All these messages. Soon the rest of your hols will be spent at a computer screen typing replies! Still, it shows how much you are loved and missed. Think you are very brave doing the bridge climb (I think you're mad- Jo) but you're making some brilliant memories. With Jo and little Daniel today shopping for Phoebe's birthday pressies. Can't believe she's been here a year. Also can't believe someone thought your singing was good! Keep having a fab time. Love to you both xxxxxxxx

From Mum & Joshie
Hi you 2, Josh & me just scanned your piccies, Joshie didn't take much notice until he saw you with your head in the croc's mouth, Lyndz, but then just chuckled and said 'he's biting Lyndsey's (not Auntie Lyndsey's!) head !' Unfortunately I don't think he was that bothered. You should be in Sydney by now - although you haven't let me know that you've arrived safely!! Well keep up with the fun. Loads of love - and a kiss from Joshie - you should be so lucky ! Mum

G'day to you both! No point in asking if you are having a good time as it sounds like you are having a ball - I am so jealous!!!! It all sounds amazing and I can't wait to see the photos so I can dream about when I go in about 15 years time! The weather sounds lovely as it was -3 degrees this morning when I was scraping ice off the windscreen taking Joshie to nursery, who still doesn' know the meaning of sleep (up at least 3 times a night, more than his baby brother - both of them are missing you!)

Enjoy all of the exciting things ahead and make the most of the sun and rest.

Lots of love (and kisses from the boys)
Jess, Neil, Joshie & Lewis
Response: Big kisses to our beautiful nephews too, missing you all so much, hope you haven't changed too much Mr Lewie! Had an eventful day at Blue Mountains today although was raining quite heavily in the mountiains. We went on a big trek down to see the big waterfall there and have some great piccies, was quite funny being ankle deep in water on the way but was worth it when we reached the waterfall. Now make sure you sleep better for mummy and daddy Joshie, they will be worn out! Glad you liked seeing the piccie of Auntie Lyndsey's head in the crocs mouth haha! Cheeky little pudding as you would say! Keep us posted on any news, glad all is good at home despite the weather! All our love and kisses from Auntie Lyndsey and Uncle Tom xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Be a good boy and eat up all your food! hehe We are loving Sydney, having sampled a cupcake shop as yet but Tom was very, very impressed with the Lindt Chocolate Cafe at Darling Harbour - he did get slightly angry when I tried to have a bit of his cake haha! Been good on the phone card front since the suitcase returned, still on the same one since all the BA phonecalls! Hope all is well at home, missing you all and big sloppy Auntie Lyndsey kisses for Daniel xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Response: Oh my god cheer dance traumas!!!!! Arggghhhh! I cant; believe they are allowed to change the score sheets so close to Nationals?? Yeah defo change the bits, it will need anouther one in at least I think, I would put one in Le and try and persuade Sue, you will need at least three spins in to cover ten points. Hope everything else is good at home, have you any goss for me? Had a fab time at Barrier Reef, I got all kited out and went snorkelling and tried scuba diving, but only managed the intro course, it was too scary for me but Tom did it.
