Nicki and Tom's travels

Tom and I are embarking on a trip to Australia via Malaysia and the neighbouring island of Lankawi. The ultimate aim is to end up in Melbourne for the fourth ashes test, after which England will probably have drawn level at 2 each.

Location: UK

We had a day off last Thursday due to the snow so we went for a lovely winter walk around Rickmansworth, I've posted a few of the pics.

I also included a couple of pics from our engagement, I was a blubbering mess!! Yes, Nikki from Big Brother is in the pics, she ended up taking the pics, can you believe it!!

I am now wearing the ring Tom chose because we had to get it resized a couple of times, I love it! The cleaner also through away the beautiful roses Tom gave me on the day - I was in the process of drying them, I was not impressed!!

Hope you are all well.

Location: Melbourne, Australia

We had a relatively quiet new year with my family. We had a meal in the appartment then went to one of the few bars that you didn't have to pay to go in to. We then watched the fireworks at midnight from the South Bank which were great.

Having a final meal with my family tonight before heading back tomorrow. Not looking forward to the jet lag!

See you all soon, lots of love Nicki and Tom xxxxx

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Spent the day yesterday with Olly and Sel who have moved out here. We went to the beach in St Kilda, which is like the Soho of Melbourne. It was great fun and it was nice to see some sun at last.

Tom and I then went out for a lovely meal along the Southbank before hitting the casino. I've never been before and was shocked at the size of the place. Tom didn't actually have a go at anything as the cheapest chip was $30!! Was a great atmosphere anyway.

Going out in the city tonight so should be great fun.

Happy new year to you all!!!

We leave on the second so will prob not get another chance to e-mail before then so we look forward to seeing you all soon.

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Happy Christmas to you all!!!

Been in the city since xmas eve - had a lovely xmas but the weather was really cold (the coldest xmas in Melbourne on record!) so no aussie bbq for us.

Tom, Deb and Dad got some tickets for the opening day of the test and enjoyed watching Shane Warne's 700th test wicket!
We don't really need to mention the rest of the cricket......was a bit embarrassing really but it was a great atmosphere. As you'll see in the pics Tom managed to get his hands on the ashes for a couple of minutes!

We've met up with a whole clan of people from Guernsey (for those who know them - Adam and Patrick Falla, Emma and Sian Kinder, Laura Martin and Laurence Graham).

Tom and I watched an open air cinema show last night is was great. You just turn up with a blanket and curl up and watch the film, it was awesome.

Going into St Kilda tonight to meet Olly and Sel who have recently moved out here.

Will be spending a bit of time on the beach before we return as the weather has improved loads and its dead hot again.

Hope you are all well.

Location: Apollo bay - Great Ocean Road, Australia

We are now half way along the Ocean Road in a small place called 'Apollo Bay' - it is lovely but the weather has been horrid.

Some of the coastline has been amazing - fantastic rock formations, Dad being an ex geography teacher has been loving it.
We saw the infamous '12 Apostles,' which were incredible aswell as an arch known as 'London Bridge'......

Yesterday we drove to the nearby national park called Otway and walked to see a beautiful waterfall through the rainforest - it absolutely tipped it down but it was good all the same.

Heading up to Melbourne tomorrow to stay in an appartment in Richmond until we leave - will be nice to not have to stay in a bunk bed for a while! We will be hooking up with Olly and Sel who have both just moved to the city aswell as Alisa who is coming down from Adelaide to spend Christmas with us. The Fallas, are also in the city for the test match so are some friends of mine, Laura and Andy so its all go, really looking forward to being based in one place again. Will keep you updated soon.

Location: Kangaroo Island, Australia

Arrived on the island with mum, dad and deb. Drove striaght away to our caravan site and based ourselves there.

Saw some amazing wildlife in the wild including, koalas, wallabies, kangaroos, penguins, seals and echindas (a bit like a hedgehog) - was loving it. The koalas are especially cute!!!!

We also visited some great sites along the way - I've taken hundreds of pics.......

P.S being in Oz whilst their winning the cricket is no fun!

Location: Adelaide, Australia

We arrived in Adelaide and were met at the airport by a familiar face - Alisa, one of my good friends from uni. We headed back with her and then met my parents and sister in the afternoon. it was great to see some familiar faces...

Alisa is living in the city for a year and has found herself the perfect place on the beach. Tom and I stayed with her. Went out for a meal in the evening with an old friend 'Skippy' or Emma Smith who was based in Guernsey for a while.

Heading to Kangaroo Island tomorrow for a couple of days.

Location: Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia

Thanks for all the e-mails. We arrived in KL this morning and checked into a hotel close to the airport as we have an early flight to oz tom morning. I didn't realise the airport was 75km from the city as last time I came, I arrived by coach from Singapore.... Anyway we didn't want to miss the city so caught a local bus for 17p!! followed by a taxi to the city, which took over an hour.

Anyway, it has changed so much in four years since I was here last - I recognise many places but the Central market is much more upmarket now and seems to be smarter than before. China Town reminds me more of Koh San Road in bangkok now (loads of fake Gucci bags etc). Anyway I get the chance to do a little more shopping, so can't complain.

Off to Oz in the morning, we fly to Melbourne and then on to Adelaide the following day so will keep you posted.....

Location: Langkawi, Malaysia

We went on an island hopping tour this morning around the nearby islands of Langkawi, it was great.

Travelled by speed boat (great fun, but got a sore bum!) between the islands. The most amazing part was seeing so many eagles in such a small area. The driver of the boat threw some chicken in the water nearby and dozens of eagles appeared from nowhere, we loved it - hope the pics come out well!

Spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing on the beach at our hotel.

Location: Langkawi, Malaysia

Hi everyone. Sorry it's taken so long to get in contact but a lack of internet access here.

Arrived safely but only one bag got here! I was left with no clothes for 2 days!!!!!!! Was very stressed and poor Tom had to cope with me. However, it did mean that we had to go shopping and to keep Tom sweet we ate regularly and at a staggeringly cheap price - he was amazed.

The resort we are staying in is lovely overlooking an isolated beach. Today we chilled on our private beach before heading to the North of the Island to visit a lovely beach called Tanjun Rhu. No one else was there so it was our own little paradise. We then went up to the highest point on the island by Cable Car and saw some incredible views.

Don't suppose that you could bring us back a stick of rock, or is that Blackpool? :) Bet you miss Watford...
