The adventures of Ian and Mandy

Well! In the last 18 months, Ian and I have seen parts of Europe, lived and worked in England, spent time touring America and went snow boarding in Canada. We returned home in May to holiday in our own country and took our time investigating the islands up the east coast of Queensland. From the Gold Coast to Whitsundays, we sailed and experienced the life of a 'Coastal Cruiser' meeting lots of fabulous fellow cruisers along the way.

Happy New Year Friends and Family!

Well another year come and gone. Hope everyone had a safe and fun new years. Our silly season was once again filled with good cheer with friends who have become our families and keep the ominious black cloud of homesickness at bay.

Xmas for us began in our loungeroom with our closest friends in London on the night before we left for Austria. I hosted a dinner party (which even included meat this time) and the crowd was impressed (and surprised). We had a lovely night and had presents and kept the spirit of xmas alive in the absence of family.

The next day on the 23 December Ian and I, Anita and Adrian boarded a plane for Salzburg in Austria. It was a long day, by the time we left london at 4.30 am we arrived at our hostel in Saalbach at 10 pm later that day. Travelling Europe is definately a full time job, but the time you make it to your destination, it is all worth it as it is usually like nothing you have seen before.

We boarded every day for the next 4 days. Spent xmas day on the slopes with many germans who were literally skiied like they were born with skiis on the feet! The whooshing of snow behind me caused many a panic attacks but by the 4 th day, I managed to be snowboard like a champ. Slow, deliberate but safe - whch was the main idea. We spent xmas night in a small little austrian restaurant and we had italian and mexican - hope you see the irony in that. Traditional food is a thing of the past as other europeans move in to these little villages to make money and get closer to the snow :)

I went back to work and Ian stayed in Austria to play with Anita and Adrian (not literally). Work has been an interesting situation for me, but at the moment, the money is motivating me and I am intent on saving as much as I can. Ian is the same. I am working in ITU (intensive care) which is proving more educational than university. I get to see the human body at its most vulnerable and I am learning so much about life (and death). Enjoying it but it is teaching me how a life time of self-abuse can lead to such devastating consequences, I am learning that when the body decides to give up, it really gives up. So a message in this email, look after yourselves - please.

New years was another awesome affair! Due to our saving money situation, we decided to stay local and enjoy london in all its glory. Our friends came down from Bristol for the night and we danced in our loungeroom and joined the party revellers in the streets. I organised us a dinner at a restaurant that was really cheap and had bad reviews. I figured that due to the poor expectations, we could only be pleasantly surprised! And we were, the company we kept made our night amazing. We loved and danced like wombats and enjoyed ourselves, while spending little money - which was the name of the game.

Back to work and back to reality. Another year to put under our belts, and begin making memories for the next. My book is coming along ok, but I have unfortunately been so busy with work, that it is difficult to find the time to write. But I have made some adjustments, so it will be ready sooner rather than later. It is certainly good to be travelling while writing it! I cant wait to have some good news for you all.

Anyway farewell for now! Love you all and miss you all terribly! The weather is miserable, but it doesnt worry me, I kind of like the wet weather! Take care of you and we will take care of us, please have a look at our photos and know that you all are missing from all of them. Be safe ande plan to have the most awesome 2007!

Allo Govna

We have been in London for a couple weeks now and although I have not been working, it has been wonderful. Catching up with old friends, fighting (literally) with recruiters and enjoying the crisp weather. The weather is cool (about 8 degrees average) but I still to this day, do not know what all the fuss is about. I often find myself steaming under all my clothes, because of my Pike Genes, I tend to scurry quite quick every where, therefore ending up boiling! So I havent really been cold yet.

WE have moved into our new room which is on Edgware Road just near the tube station. We are a hop skip and a jump from Hyde Park and Regent Park and I walked all the way into London this morning and took me all of 15 minutes. Our new location is awesome and I am chuffed. The couple we moved in with are from Brisbane and are lovely. Cass and Wayne are both bankers and Wayne works rediculous hours so it is mainly Cass and I - and we get on marvellously. She is a Gem-Gem-Gemini born only a day after me (and a few years before) so we are two peas in a pod. Although she is shorter and dark hair, she is already my Mini Me.

Ian is in Scotland at the moment and he is loving it as his hotel sees the water, therefore lots of boats. He will also be loving falling asleep on the couch without me prodding him urging him to go to bed.

I start my new job Wednesday and it is back at the hospital that I was at before. Therefore I know the doctors and registras and paediatricians. I am so happy about this as these people are groovy and helpful so I will have someone to go to with questions. I am looking forward to seeing all my old friends there again. I only just got to know them last time and we left. I will be doing 50% paeds and 50% adults which suits me fine. And our new house is alot closer this time, so 30 minutes will be the longest it will take me to get to work as I walk most of the way anyway. I enjoy the walk as opposed to the sniffing peoples armpits in the tubes.

We went and saw Gomez last week which was great. At the Apollo at Hammersmith. It was so cozy and really great live music. AND it was over by 10 which is great. Means everyone can get home at a decent time!

Thanks for listening and hope all i well with everyone! We miss you all. Please take care of yourselves and never take anything for granted.

Howdy Everyone!

Well, we have arrived and the weather is lovely. It rained when we got here, but this morning is absolutely perfect. About 10 degrees. We had a couple days in Bangkok which was of course wrought with interesting things. Nothing seems to go smoothly in places where you dont speak the language! However, as we are seasoned travellers, we took it all in our stride. We caught up with a girl that we met last year in Bangkok which was great. She is a Danish girl called Astrid who happened to be on MSN one night when I was at Dads, she said she was working back in Bangers and wanted to catch up. Soo... it was excellent to have a beer with her. She is working in Rural Bangkok as an English teacher, although she is a dane, her English is actually better than ours...go figure, it makes us Ossies look like simpletons...I think I may learn another language!

Anyway in london and all is well. We will keep you posted with our where abouts!

Stay Classy SantDiego!
