Location: Queenstown - Milford Sounds, New Zealand

Up at the crack of Dawn this morning as i had to catch a bus at 7 am. The trip was leaving so i was delighted at that. There were the minimum number of people (7) on the trip on a 51 seater bus!! The roads were ok. They were concerned about the roads as the road only was reopened last night! We headed off in the dark and as it brightened up we could see the extent of the snow. It was everywhere!! it made the area absolutely beautiful! really fabulous! The drive down was very different and then when we god to the sounds around 12.45 we boarded a boat and went for cruise around the Fiord for almost 2 hours. The scenery was very similar to Halong Bay in Vietnam. I can't tell which i preferred the most, but the islands in Halong Bay were a bit more spectacular...
It was a very long day, but true to my previous performance i managed to take about 200 pictures!! What am i Like!!

Location: Wanaka - Queenstown, New Zealand

Finally got out of Wanaka today. We managed to get a bus out at 10.30am what an hour hour journey turned into 2 1/2hrs with the weather! The country side was beautiful with all the snow! When We got to Queenstown (Ben, Kath & I) we got sorted in out our hostel and then i went to explore the town. I met Jessie and Edel (the 2 girls that i met in Bangkok) wondering around the town and we went for a coffee. I booked my trip for Milford sounds. They are not sure that it will be going ahead as the roads might me closed but if i don't try go tomorrow i might never get to go...
As I had to be up for a departure of 7 am, i didn't go out on the town i just stayed in and watched a movie! I hope to get to Milford tomorrow...

Location: Wanaka, New Zealand

The magic bus didn't go again today... so Ben Kath and I went to a cafe and while we were having our green tea... we spotted a Wanaka connections bus going by... our only hope to get out and we missed it! so the day was just spend on the internet and uploading pictures! The weather changed from being beautiful blue skies to rain and sleet!!
so another day just chilling and basically just doing nothing!! Watched Ice age 2 ... very appropriate!

No Bus arrived bus again today... so stranded in Wanaka again!

Wednesday, 20 June 2007

Location: Franz Josef -Wanaka, New Zealand

Up early to catch the bus today, didn't want to be late again!! I planned to stop in Wanaka as i have a day extra since i got to do the sky dive so quickly. The drive was lovely we went over the Hasst pass this was beautiful with the mountains and all. though it was hard to take pictures with the bus moving and the windows dirty! We passed through a town called Ross and another few little places along the way. I panned for gold in Ross that was kinda cool! i got the keep the TINY bits too! i'm rich! We reqached Wanaka about 2 andi jumped off and got settled into the purple cow(the hostel!!) My plan was to go to the cinema there. it is called cinema pardiso! really funky it has a car, sofa's and lounge chairs in it! really different. I saw the Flying Scotishman. It was actually very good, a true story. So I had planned to do a few other things, but as my ears hadn't returned to normal after the sky dive i said i had better to to the doctor, turns out i have a ear infection! - great!! so he gave my the anitbotics and i was on my way! All in all it was a nice relaxing day beside the lake!

Tuesday, 19 June 2007

Location: Franz Josef Glacier, New Zealand

Today i did a sky dive!!! it was FANTASTIC!!
I was to be picked up at about 7.45 so i was ready and waiting.. as cold as it was i didn't feel the pain!!
I knew that if i was going to do this, i would just have to get on with it. so I did!!
The girl that collected me was a wee bit loopy! had this funky airy fairy music on in the car and was dancing to it in the car!
When i got there i kinda thought that it was a dodgy looking place, but i have to say it was very professional. The girl that was my instructor was very good. I suited up and got ready, and made sure the camera was ready too!!!
The pilot had a creek in his neck, so it kinda looked funny him hopping in to the plane.. very out back or something! The views going up to the 12000ft were great. i am glad i had the camera as it did keep me occupied! I got some nice shots of the clouds! So the time came to open the door. Th minute Emily opend the door the wind came rushing in. it was really hard to breath with the air rusing in. I did all of the things that i was supposed to do and then i was told to jump... i did!!! It was great a real rush i kept my eyes open too!! i was chuffed with that!!
It only took a few minutes or should i say seconds before the parachute came out then there was just a lovely feeling of just sitting there in complete silence! it was really peaceful. I again took loads of photos - as usual!! We landed in no time and had i the money i would have jumped again there and then. It really was great!! The only downer was that my ears wouldn't equalise and i had a really loud voice in my head... mine it isn't nice! i tried all day to try and equalise, but it wouldn't work. Maybe it was because of my cold... hopefully tomorrow all will be well!

Another day of just rain... only this time i said i had better brave it and ventured out. The plan was to do the mono rail as i thought thateven in the rain,i would be able to see the streets and a bit of the town... by alas no, the windows were covered in advertising and you could see Sh%*#t I then went to the aquarium maybe that would be ok.. but the price to get in! so i figured it was off t the cinema with me again, i went to the imax, but there was nothing on so i just wondered again, I gave Elizabeth (a girl i met in Vietnam) a call, but she was in work, so i called Erron (her husband whom i had also met in Vietnam surprisingly!!) He was enroute back from Caberra so we arranged to go out on the town on Sat night. Cliare had already organised a night out in the rocks, a place in sydney like say temple bar, so Erron suggested the Observer...all settled!
I then walked back towards claires work as i was to meet her after as she was haveing a few drinks with her work mates as i kinda going away do.
We went to a locla bar to her work and was enroute home at about 10, a nice quite nite with a bit too much Jim Beam!!

Thursday, 07 June 2007

Location: Sydney, Australia

Today it just rained...
Rain.... and more rain.....
I took out my new runners and really tested the waterproofness of them!!
I didn't venture far, the rain was just so bad that by the time i got to the Bondi Juction I just went into the shopping centre and tried to dry out. I didn't really want to do any more shopping... i don't think my bags can handle it! so i went to the cinema instead! It was 11.30am!! it's been years since i did that.. pity Eliz wasn't there!! I saw the Zodiac, true crime thriller based in San Francisco. Very good.
After that i was tempted to go see shrek 3 but as i had promised claire....
I just stayed around the junction today as the weather was just so miserable and then just went to claire's place

Wednesday, 06 June 2007

Location: Sydney----- Finally!!, Australia

I arrived in Sydnet at 6.30 amd after the night bus.. buy was that a journey. I arrived at central and then i managed to get to Bondi Junction on the train... even with all of my luggage! So i got to claire's at about 7.30 and woke the poor yoke up! We hugged and got out ohh 'how are are yea' etc out of the way and then i got intoduced to the couch.. my new bed for the next week!! CLiare had to go to work so she got ready and i just panned out on the couch! By the time she left i was fast asleep! I got up about 12 and then watched a DVD as it had started to rain. it cooled off by about 3 so i went down to the Bondi Juction and did a bit of window shopping! I met claire after work and we just went home and had dinner. As i only had flip flops i had to invest in a pair of runners. I was so glad of them as it was quite chilly!!
My first day in sydney and i didn't really do anything!

Monday, 21 May 2007

Location: Airlie Beach - Whitsunday Is., Australia

I had to check out of the hostel this moning and then recheck in when i am back from the islands. It is a bit of a bummer but how and ever! I got sorted with my bags (they had to go into storage until i'm back) and then waited at the bus stop. Met a guy that was at my hostel in Cairns, who was on the same boat as i am! Chris from Germany. We went and boarded the boat. it was Kinda small i guess i was expecting a bigger one!! there was 11 of us and 2 crew on board once we got settled we were given a briefing. the skippers phone rang in the middle of it and you would never guess what... the phone call was for me!!! it was Rhonda a girl that i had net in Africa on the tour and who was living in airlie! i had told her i would contact her when i got there, but hadn't heard anything from her. I had told her what boat i was on and she took a chance with the skipper, as she knew ont of them and sure enough it was the one she knew!!

I got here on the sunday evening and checked into the hostel. It seemed fine ..at first! apparently the chain of hostels that i was booked in has bed bugs! they are riddling australia at the moment... But all was well i got my self sorted and went to check in for my 3 day sail around the Whit sunday islands. I got that sorted and stocked up for the sail (ie some booze!!) Got my provisions and got ready my day pack! i tellyou i do not know how to pack light! my bag was huge! mainly my camera though!! I wnet to bed hoping that i would get a good night sleep . The earplugs and the eye mask had its first outing in an aussie hostel!

Saturday, 19 May 2007

Location: Cairns - Airlie Beach, Australia

Was up again at the crack of dawn and felt alot better firstly about doing the dives and secondly my headache had gone! i had thought about not doing the 3rd dive of the day (5th altogether) particularly if my ears were not able for it. but after the first dive i felt great!! we filled our tanks and were back down finding Nemo within 15 mins. I had brought my camera this time and it took me a while but i did manage to get a few photo's taking pictures on dry land is alot easier!! I will add a few picts as soon as i can Overall the dives were great When i finished my second Dive i was now a certified diver!!! The last dive i did was great this was as a certified diver wahoo!! We saw a shark and a turtle, the photo's are great! after i came back up i logged everyting and then hit the water again and snorkled on the reef for a nother hour. it is amaxing how the time just flies by!
There was a night out later that evening and we just went to diner kinda place and had a bit and a few drinks. I didn't stay long as i was headoing out on the early bus in the morning... my next stop being Airlie Beach!

Friday, 18 May 2007

Location: Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, Australia

Was up again at the crack of dawn to start my diving I had 2 dives planned for today and then 3 for tomorrow. To be truthfull and honest i was SHITTING myself! i didn't panic but it was scary! Once i went down under, it was amazing. it took me a while to get used to breathing through my mouth! every now and again i did say to my self... keep breathing.. must keep breathing. I think that it is just that i normally like to be in control of all situations!! i wasn't of this one. if anything happened i would be swallowing a mouthfull of salty water and i'd be fecked!!! but i managed to keep it together and it was great. When i came back up again we had lunch and we were due to go on another dive at 1.30 or so. I havd developed a mild headache, mainly from the pressure of being down 12m! i thought nothing of it and went on the next dive. We did all of our excerises and included taking the regulator out and practicing retreving it as if it was real life situation. that was ok but the removing and filling of the mask and then emptying it wasn't great!! After we had all of the dives completed i felt really bad. The pressure of the dive was really getting to my head and i had a splitting headache... i got sick twice and it wasn't good i tell yea! i said it to my instructor as wellapparently it is kinda important with decompression sickness ect, was a wee bit worried. but i just went home and went to bed and slept for almost 12 hours.. i think that i was just needing the sleep i was wrecked! so that was all i had to say abnout that day! i was seriously considering not diving tomorrow... i see!!

Wednesday, 16 May 2007

Location: Carins, Australia

16th and 17th May 2007.....

Up at the crack of dawn this morning to start my open water PADI course. The first 2 days were in the pool and classroom learning. This was ok. the stuff was very easy considering by swimming and surprisingly enough engineering background. there was a lot of technical stuff. The 2 days here was a wake up call though.. hadn't done a test in a while!! The poole work was ok as well/ Getting used to the regulator was had. i just kept thinking i was going to drown and swallow the pool. it was ok though!!
I managed to get through the 2 days in one piece. nothing musch else to report as it was classroom/pool to hostel. i was shattered every day!@!
