Location: Hervey Bay, Australia

MapFraser Island is the worlds largest sand island and holds many amazing rainforest, beautiful beaches, dingos, and a huge land shipwreck. It is an amzing place, and i was just on it 4x4ing and ripping up the tracks and beaches with a group of 8 other people, which we nick named Team Stanley! So much fun! The trip began with us having to watch 2 movies on Fraser Islands history, dangers, and sights. Then, we were put into 4 groups of 8 to 12 people and given lists of suggested itinerary and food, and the keys to our new home for the next 3 days. It was almost like we were in the amazing race, where all the groups had to plan their meals for the next 3 days, load up their trucks with all the supplies and fit all the gear into the 4x4s, and race to the grocery store to pick up all the food for the next 3 days. Then, had to race to the Ferry in order to make it to Fraser Island in time. It was quite a bit of fun. My team consisted of 2 couples, and 4 single girls. We all had our kind of nicknames in the group. One of the couples was nicknamed Mum and Dad (Kim and Tom), and the other couple was Hobbit and Hannah (Matt and Hannah). And the 4 girls were Michelle (another Canadian from St. Paul in Alberta), Metta (from Germany), Tammy and I. Matt was halarious, he was totally into the team aspect, got us all riled up on making a name for our 4x4 (later named Stanley) and making up chants and such for our team. It was so much fun! Once we arrived at the Island, all the groups branched off and went on their own ways. We started off the trip by offroading it on our way to the beach to try out beach driving. SO MUCH FUN!!! Imagine driving on a beautiful beachfront, on the ocean, in a 4x4, going 80kms/hour. it was a BLAST!!! the whole time, everyone shouting out, Go Team Stanley! Halarious! We went to the 'Maheno' shipwreck, a shipwreck which was washed up on the beach, the Indian Head lookout, and then decided to stay on the beach and set up camp. imagine cooking supper and drinking to the sound of waves rolling up on shore and crickets cricketing you to sleep. It was heaven, not to mention the stars that we could see and the FULL moon. BEAUTIFUL.
The next morning, we woke up at around 9:00am, had breaky, took down camp, and decided to go to the Champagne Pools. Amazing and beautiful. They were rocks that were situated above the crashing waves of the ocean, and filled with water when high tide brought the water in. It was gorgeous! This is also where i just happened to run into Amanda Maginn, a girl that i used to work with at the TLC! Crazy how small the world is! Once we dried odd and finished sunbaking, we drove on the beach to Pinnacle Rocks (which looked just like the HooDoos at home) and then to Lake Birrabeen. Before we arrived at Lake Birrabeen, Tammy was offered the chance to drive the 4x4 on the beach, and hesitantly took it. It was so cute!!! but so good!. Once at the beautifully clear Lake Birrabeen, we drove to Central station to camp overnight. And we broke out the Goon (cheap wine) and had some fun stories going around. It was all good times!
The next morning, we woke up early and made our way to Lake Mackenzie - supposidly the most beautiful lake there is on the island, and it was quite beautiful, but once we got there and had about an hour of sunbaking, it began to rain. So, we decided to 4x4 it to Lake Wabby to see what that was like, and i think that it was more beautiful than Lake Mackenzie. Surrounding Lake Wabby was sand doons and trees, beautiful. It was almost as if it was in a little valley of it's own. Quite cool.. Once that was finished, and we took out group pictures, we made our way to the service station to fill up our tires again and get some ice cream and post cards. Made it to the Ferry just in time and had a beautiful ride back to Hervey Bay. Once we got home, we did some strenous bookings for the next leg of our trip, and then went out for supper with Team Stanley. It turns out that only 2 of the 4 teams really got along well, because in the indian restaurant that we decided to all meet up in, only one other group was there. I'm so thankful that we had a good group.
The next morning, our group all got together at our hostel and had a goodbye pancake breaky. It was so much fun. Then we all split our ways and some of us ended up at the Beach on the Esplanade. So much fun!

Tomorrow, i'm off to Noosa for 2 days and then to Brisbane for 2 nights and then to Byron Bay for who knows how long! SO EXCITED!!! Supposidly, Noosa is just like a little hippie town, so that should be a blast, and then i have no clue what is next after that! But i'm excited anyways!!! haha

Love you all, and hopefully, my planetranger will keep working!
Love Katy
