Ash’s Travel Diary

Thursday, 28 Dec 2006

Location: Melbourne, Australia

MapAnother blurry week has passed. I was waiting for a sober time to update this & as I’ve been watching the cricket today, now probably isn’t a good time either!

Finally got to Sydney on the 23rd & met up with Gary to crash in his house again. Went out on a Gaelic Football pub crawl that night which topped 45 people at one stage.

Christmas Eve we managed to get some sought after tickets on a 4 hour booze cruise around Sydney Harbour. Was a great way to spend the night cruising past the Opera House & impressive skylines. As you can imagine by the end of the 4 hours, the 200 people onboard were well on thier way & one lass even managed to fall in the water getting off!
Spent the rest of the night in some Irish bar. Christmas Day involved more Irish-ness as we went round to a packed Irish apartment for dinner. Things got out of hand & at one stage I was apparently dancing around mimicking a British soldier whilst they all sang, “Send the fecker home.”

Boxing Day was spent ill, the 27th driving to Melbourne & today watching the abysmal English cricket team. Was still an experience to watch it in such a huge stadium & the Barmy Army were absolutely superb, singing non-stop with some absolute peaches….

“We shagged Matildaa, we shagged Matildaaa & so did our mates,
She moaned & she groaned as we did her up the Billlaa-bong” to the tune of ‘Waltzing Matilda.’

“Get your stars off our f--king flag’”

“Camila-Parker Bowles will be your next queen,”

“The Sikh, the Sikh, the Sikh is on fire.”

Am staying where most of the Barmy Army are & they carry it on into all the pubs at night making it a great atmosphere.

No idea what the plans hold now. Short-term is to have a wash & retrieve Hilda as she’s been towed away. Long term, I need to settle down, get a wife, mortgage, have a shave, get a job & a labrador.

Hope you all had a good Christmas, I’ve not been online so need to send a few e-mails.
Take it easy & have a good new year.
