Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand

MapTomorrow we are going to Pai. It's about 2-3 hours from Chiang Mai & someone today described to to me as "the Byron Bay of Northern Thailand". I have been sick for the past 3 days with a fever & rash (nice huh?!) so some R&R in Pai will be fun.
After a couple of days there we will come back here for more climbing.
Males in Thailand have a "luck draw" when they are about 20 years old to determine whether or not they will spend time in the Thai army. If they draw a red card they spend 2 years full-time in the army, and if they draw a black card they are free to continue on with life as usual. Joey's 2 older brothers each did the 2 years and Joey missed out, much to his pleasure! Joey's oldest brother decided to stay in the army, and his son is looked after by the grandparents whilst Mum & Dad work in Bangkok.
