Location: Kanchanaburi, Thailand

MapHello ALL! Well I have had a busy three days. All of it incredible. Kanchanaburi is famous for the Bridge Over the River Kwai. During WW II the Japanese decided to build a railway 415 km through Thailand into Burma. This way they could transport supplies easier and quicker. Approzimately 60 Australian, British, Dutch and American POW's (prisoners of war) and about 250,00 Asian labourers worked in terrrible conditions on a project that initially was supposed to take three to four years to complete. The Japanese as we know treated there prisoners exceptionally cruel during the war. The entire railway was completed in just 16months. Approzimately 20% (12,400) of the POW's died and between 70,00-90,000 Asian laborourers. They died from all sort of diseases, dysentry, malnutrion, no medical facilities, and Japanese brutality. Shortly after the bridge was completed the aliied forces bombed teh major bridges. They have since been rebuilt in memory of the people who have died making it. It was very moving, I wept at the cemtetary.

After taht I went to the Tiger Temple. Nice soft kitty cats! Not drugged surprisingly! I didn't love that they were chained up but I don't often get to pat a tiger. The next day I went on a great tour to this awesome waterfall pictures to come when I have more time! But the 7 tiered waterfall was incredible and chilly!! But refreshing! I spent the day today getting pampered. Massage, pedicure, manicure, eye brow wax all for $8!! I love ASIA! I have to go catch my night bus now! At this time tomorrow I will be on an Island! Hurray! Happy Holidays! Love, Tamarra
