Location: Flores, Guatemala

MapHello all! Finally left Antigua on a 6pm flight to Flores/Tikal. The hilarious thing is that Alyssa´s half used 150ml gel got taken away going through security but the litre and half of water I was carrying was not a problem.
It is very humid but not super hot...perfect for me (Alyssa). Woke up at 5am to catch a tourist shuttle to Tikal which is approx. 1 hour 20 minutes away. The ruins were incredible, massive!! There are at least five major temples of approx. 60-70meters high. There are about 20 other smaller temples all set in the forest. We hiked around for 6 1/2 hours. We pretty much saw everything. SOme of the stairs up the temples were harrowing. SO much so that Alyssa didn´t go up Temple V because there were 110 steps straight up. I went up but my heart was pounding the entire way. Not from being out of breath but scared out of my wits. Coming down backwards like a ladder was way worse. But all is well and the view was definetly worth it. The ruins weren´t the only amazing thing we saw at Tikal. The wildlife was equally amazing. I have never heard such a large vocal group of monkies. They were deafening, and yet sooo cute. Just adorablesmall black monkies with a real roar! We saw more than our share of mosquito bites, even with super deluxe repellent! It only rained lightly for five minutes which was great. We came home exhausted and dragged ourselves out for a delicious pizza dinner. Tomorrow the adventure continues, zipling across the canopy and maybe a boat ride around FLores Lake. This town is charming with tons of small guesthouses lining the lakeshore. Hugs, T & A
