Tamarra’s Travel Diary

Location: San Ignacio, Belize

MapHello All! It is amazing how much fun you can pack into such a small amount of time. In the last four days we have.. Explored Tikal (already wrote and posted pics) Went zip lining. It was Alyssa's first time my third. Alyssa was soooooo nervous but I was calm and cool. She almost backed out at the last second but with a little encouragement we were off. We bothed loved flying through the air. Even when it started to pour on the last run we loved it. On the last run I got to the platform and my feet slipped and I ended up zipping backwards. I was laughing and then I had to pull myself back. It was fun and far too short. The ride back to the office was equally fun as it was teeming with rain and we hovered under a big garbage bag. In the late afternoon we went on a boat ride around the lake. It was also quite scenic.

We got up the next day before the crack of dawn and got on a shuttle to Belize. We crossed the border no problem and caught a taxi to a small city called San Ignacio just 20 minutes from the border. We had heard from some other traveller that there were fun things to do there. So today we went on what they call the ATM tour (Actun Tunichil Muknal) . It was a hour drive then we put on our helmets and walked through the woods for about 45 minutes. Then we left our backpacks and put on head lamps and jumped into the river. The next three hours were spent in a long dark cave, half in the water half climbing over rocks. Eventually we arrived at the Ancient Mayan Sacrifice Site! There were bones and pottery. It was really cool. The caves were full of stalactites and stalagmites. Again not new for me but new for ALyssa. We both loved the day! It is time for dinner now, tomorrow we head to the beach and the BLUE HOLE! Yippeee! Hugs, T & A
