Location: Bogota, Colombia

MapHello All! I have had an action packed two days. Yesterday I did a ton of walking. I met up with my Colombian friend German(from the plane). We wandered around the upscale end of Bogota. Nice malls and markets. We had an excellent traditional dinner. Of course I took a taxi home. No walking the streets at night. I have never seen so many police in my life!! They are really working on keeping the crime level down! I guess they are enjoying their tourist dollars!

Today I took two buses out of town. I went to a small town that is famous for its salt mine. It is the second largest in the world next to the one in Windsor, Ontario. The mine is massive. The salt is not used for consumption. It does not have iodine in it. However, this is no average mine. Within this mine they have created a salt Cathedral with all 13 stages of Jesus´s journey (?). There is a massive 50 tonne salt cross. There is a cathedral that holds services twice a year. I guess having a cathedral in a mine is not a bad idea. Mining is much safer now but before it was extremely dangerous. The tour was interesting but the 6 Argentinian girls and the one boy from Chile that I spent the day with was really the highlight!

Tonight I played in a poker tournament with 12 people. Of course I didn´t win, but it was fun. WHo would have thought I would be playing poker in a foreign country. The players were very international (israel, France, Spain, Australia, German, US...) Tomorrow I am leaving Bogota! Time to go see some nature. HUgs, T
