Location: Mendoza, Argentina

MapGreetings from South America....We flew out of Brisbane on the 7th January after a great night out with Dave J and Paul H, arrived safely to a warm welcoming in Santiago by our friend Stu. We spent the day exploring the sights of the Chilean captial lead by Stu's brother Duane, the city has a very modern and European feel. Our exploring was cut short to our very severe jetlag however we will be returning to Santiago in 2 months.

Yesterday we caught a semi cama bus (very comfy) which took us through the Andes from Santiago, Chile into Mendoza, Agentina. We would rate this as one of our most spectacular drives we have taken. The windy roads that weaved up giant snowcapped mountains and the raging river that followed the whole way was quite magical - hard to explain see the photos.

Mendoza is a gorgeous little town in the middle of the desert, which has benefited from reservoir and aquaducts built many years ago. The tree lined streets beautify this town, along with the night markets, street cafes and ampliefied music. The Mendoza region produces 70% of the countrys wine which of course we sampled last night! It is also home to some serious outdoor adventure sports, making it an excellent base to explore the Andes. Looking into doing some wine tasting around the region and maybe horse riding or white water rafting, will update you next time.
