Location: Las Vegas, USA

MapIt is so incredible that this city is plonked in the middle of the desert! We drove in to Las Vegas from Zion NP today but before checking out the town decided to go find some camping for the night at a campsite just out of town. We reserved a spot but as it was sweltering hot decided to wait until dusk to set up camp or we'd be sleeping in a sauna all night!

Near the campground was Red Rocks State Park. I'd heard there was good climbing in the area so we decided to do the scenic drive through the park and see what it was like. Maybe the climbing was somewhere else or beneath my nose but I couldn't see anything overly spectacular, except the five sports cars we happened to be behind! It was great as it was a one way road so we got to take lots of photos of Red Rocks with five sports cars in them! They certainly looked good against the back drop, and made the drive much more interesting than expected!

After the scenic drive we drove in to town and amazingly enough found free parking! We went up to the observation deck of The Stratosphere and Ed braved one of the rides called the Big Shot. My neck was sore from sleeping awkwardly the night before so I got the camera slot! After buying a few expensive souvenirs to send home we decided to walk up 'The Strip' to check out all the glamour of Vegas! It is unbelievable how many casinos and hotels there can be on one street! It took all afternoon and evening to walk up and back. We went in to the Venetian which was spectacular, the ceiling being painted to look like the sky. It really felt as though you were outdoors! -Quite incredible! And there were little canals all the way through the hotel. Just amazing! Of course I imagine the real thing to be ten times as spectacular!
