Location: Berlin, Germany

MapMatt here. Gutentag! There has been so much going on, I'll do my best to keep you guys up to date. We're sitting in a cafe in Berlin, drinking cheap Warsteiner beer right now. They sell booze everywhere!

The cathedral in Köln was astonishing. Easily one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Picture the largest, most breathtaking church you've seen, then times it by 10. Other than the cathedral, there's not too much going on in the town, unfortunately. We were, however, lucky enough to be around during what the locals call Summer Jam. Turns out that 40 000 gay men converge on the city, and raise hell in a massive parade just outside the church. Ever seen a woman wearing leather and horse-blinders, while being led around by her partner? We have. Onto Berlin!

We're staying in a hostel in downtown Berlin called Mitte Backpacker. What we thought was a semi-private room is actually a 30 person dorm. There's nothing like crowds of smelly backpackers to endear you to travelling.

We did a walking tour of the city yesterday. It lasted eight hours, but I think Ryan wanted to keep on going. He was told if he does it three times, he gets a medal. I'm not sure where that would come from, as our grad student guide was probably poorer than even myself.

We saw all the old war sites (well, as old as 1945 as everything had to be rebuilt after the war), visited parliament and some great cathedrals, and had some beers in a garden. Great tour...totally worth the 12 euro.

There is so much history in this town, on top of a very active metropolis. Whatever you want, you can find it in Berlin. If you like cheap food (ie. Dave), Berlin's got you covered there too. They have this food called a Doner Kebab. It's kind of like a donair, but there are 3 million stands in the city; Dave has now been to 2.95 million of them. I swear, when we leave he's going to go into Doner Kebap withdrawl.

We're heading to Dresden tomorrow. I need to pump some more money into the computer, and likely pick up another beer.
