Alaska’s Travel Diary

Saturday, 18 Aug 2007

Location: USA

MapAugust 18, 2007 We have been busy, but doing what? Who knows? We had our typical uploading day at the senior center yesterday and then had an exciting adventure at the Kenai Peninsula Fair; pig parades, pig races, family singers, children’s workshops, crafts, bee keepers selling honey, artists, oil company give aways….you name it. We have pictures that I am sure you will enjoy. Quite an experience! We then came out and worked on our mutual crafts. Gene came over and he and I played cribbage which is a drama in and of itself. Before we leave, I am going to get three pictures, Gene and I before we play cribbage, during the cribbage game and after the cribbage game. If there were ever two mood disordered people during a cribbage game, it is the two of us. Alton, Jennifer and I watched our evening movie (we do this every evening) and then went to bed early so that the two of them could get up this morning and catch fish. Jennifer caught two nice fish this morning and picture will follow. Alton caught nothing.

P.S. Finally!!!!! I caught my limit....a 5 1/2 pounder & a 6 1/2 pounder. And to think I have been thinking about sleeping in? Each morning, one gets superstitious on ways that have jinxed the fish OR whatever. I think, this morning, my decision to NOT change into 'clean' underwear until shower time, for a change, made the difference! All my fishing clothes are starting to ripen. I have even thought about throwing my fishing coat away. It has lost all by two buttons and the pockets are now crusted over w/ the cured salmon eggs we use for bait.
I look forward to not having to wake up at 4:15 to 4:45 each morning, but hate to leave Alaska! The temperatures here have been anywhere from 42 degrees to 54 degrees in the a.m. to 70 degrees in the afternoon. We have certainly lucked out with the weather, but fear the warm whether is the cause of the poor fishing. Bob Jones actually slept in this a.m. What's up with that?
I am on cook duty for the next few days. Today's meal is WW Bean Soup. Tomorrow we will have Chicken Brochettes Tropicales (Los Barrios Restaurant recipe). Monday we will have Spinach Soup. It will be left overs after that.
By the way, some of the pictures we load are duplicated in the form of a video as some are not able to view the videos, BUT can view the pictures easily.
