Location: USA

MapTo bed by 10, up at 8. We are still alive and have not flipped over. I have still to check out the nearest exit in case I have to find my way out upside down and filled with water. They have car deck calls for pets and people who want to get in their cars as late as 12:30 a.m. The last ‘announced’ call is at 8:30 p.m. (I think) tonight when we will load the car up w/ the stuff we don’t need (i.e. the computers, extra gear, etc.). We also are minus some baggage due to ‘eating our goods’. We bought tuna & crackers, cups of fruit, wine, etc. for the room on days when we were too full from the menus offered on board and too cheap to pay the price of their meals and/or drinks. Yesterday, we decided to visit the lounge after 3 hours of waiting for ‘flipping’ pictures to load (to no avail). Gwynne ordered a White Russian and almost had a coronary when the bartender said ‘That will be $10’! I ordered a glass of wine….$4.50. Generally, things on the boat are very reasonable, considering.
After a ranger talk, yesterday, Susan from Northern California, went up and down isles looking for bridge players and just happened to say it right as she passed by our chairs. We made arrangements to meet her and another unknown 4th to play at 4 p.m. As it turns out, the layover in Ketchikan was 5 hours instead of 3 and so, Susan caught up with us upon her return from the visit into town and we played from 7:30 to 9:30 and got our butts whooped! Gwynne and I were partners….not because we know how we play together, but because that is how the draw worked out. Things happen for a reason, eh? Loas (Dutch and short for Luisa) brought along her cards (IN ‘flipping’ DUTCH). Half the time, I was having to decipher what cards I had. It really only affected the face cards, but I am using that excuse anyway! AND the fact that Gwynne & I only had an opening hand a hand full of times. We have much to learn from the pros about the Stayman and Jocoban conventions we have heard so much about. Bobby, Debby, Helen, and Jane watch out! Gwynne and I will have new codes to use on you. We have a scheduled ‘rematch’ at 2:00 this afternoon.
Loas just came in from soaking up the beautiful weather with her hubby on deck to give us her email address. We have naturally gravitated towards her as she is very ‘sweet’ natured and we love communicating with her and have even gone so far as even visiting her in Southern Holland where you can sit out on the terrace and look out over the water.
We shall make an effort to report in later today w/ any earth-shaking news (i.e. whale or otter sitings, 7 no trump made, tidal wave, etc.)
