Alaska’s Travel Diary

MapUp at 7 a.m. to prepare pigs in the blanket…..a beautiful sunshiny day. Today was John’s golf day at Kenai Golf Course. He said the course was a bit rough, but he enjoyed it all the same. Gwynne dropped him off for his 9:30 a.m. tee-time and discovered a WalMart in Kenai. Pam, Dylan, and I took our time back at the house getting ready for the day. Our day consisted of driving to Kenai, via Soldotna, to pick John up and to go to the new WalMart. We first stopped at McDonald’s in Soldotna to get Dylan some chicken nuggets….Pam & I shared chicken pieces. In route to Kenai, we saw a cow moose with two calves and watched them for a while.
Once we met up with John, we went to Walmart and bought a few necessities (Pam stocked up on souvenirs). Dylan got a set of Lincoln Logs to build a log cabin (guess who ended up building it?). These things are not cheap toys! YIKES! I don’t think I’m gonna make it to September. Please send money.
We had a great dinner…..bean/chili soup ala Jennifer and a baked rice dish to-die-for ala Pam. Gene came over and Pam, John, Gwynne, and Gene played two matches of cribbage (a big game up north). Games were split and I suppose we might have a rematch tomorrow on the Bearor’s last night in Ninilchik.
As they played, Dylan and I spent the better part of a couple of hours playing with his Nerf rocket and/or golf ball (Pam & John gave him). It got stuck up in the pine trees several times. Bob came to our rescue. Then again, I tried another one stuck up in the tree for the longest time, before I realized a simple broomstick would have reached the darn thing from the ground instead of hurling a heavy hooked rope from the deck. It was fun, nonetheless, watching Dylan watch Memaw strain to get the target.
Tomorrow is leisure day… plans. John wants to watch the PGA. They will head to Anchorage Sunday. (Jennifer)
