MapFinally! Some excitement. First I have to thank Alton and Claudia for bringing us some much appreciated sunshine.
Woke at 5:45 a.m. Monday morning to a phone call from Gene to get up so we could go get Alton at the Kenai airport. I did not want him to drive that road alone, due to the number of accidents with crazies and moose. Soon after Gene dropped me off, he called to inform me that 120,000 Sockeye salmon had gone through the mouth of the Kenai river and we would be going fishing after lunch.
Gwynne, Dylan, and I had gone to the P.O. Gwynne and Dylan went to Brody Bridge, Library, and Senior Center while I stayed behind to put my casserole together for dinner. Little did I know we would not eat it until 9 p.m.
Gene, Alton, and I all trekked to the Kenai River in Soldotna, deprived of sleep from the night before, to do a little combat fishing behind their mall (really an oversized 2-story strip center). Everyone was friendly and helpful. We all caught our limt of 3 Sockeyes....me first, Alton next, and then Gene. We insisted on staying so Gene could catch all his. By then, it was 5 p.m. and we still had 40 miles to go and fish to clean.
We happened to meet up with Claudia in Soldotna so she could follow us. I rode with her.
Gwynne and Dylan met us at Gene's and there we started cleaning fish, or should I say "Gene" started cleaning fish. I felt pretty helpless. By 8:30, Gene dismissed Dylan and I to go home and tend to his/our needs. Dinner was served and then it was bedtime (and "yes" I did take a shower).
Today, Claudia and I will venture out to Homer to check on the kayaking situation to revisit later this week. Gwynne will stay behind with Dylan. (Jennifer)
