Anita and Bernie’s Travel Diary

Tuesday, 11 Mar 2008

Location: Adelaide, Australia

MapG'day all. The good news was that we had an upgrade on the Ghan train. We were given a cabin at no extra charge which saved us at least 200 pounds! It meant that we were able to have a relatively good night's sleep on a bed. The hours went by very quickly. The scenery was the same, hour after hour, but it did you a perception of the vastness of the red, sandy desert. We saw lots of camel tracks and one group of camels. We did manage to see one hopping kangaroo in the early morning. The night sky was ablaze with stars as there is obviously no light pollution around.
Rachel, you will be pleased to know that Dad was dragged (!) to the hairdressers today and had all his golden (?) locks cut off!! He looks years younger. I also had by hair coloured and cut so I am back to my glamourous (?) self. It cost no more than England.
Our hotel, would you believe, is in the same area as Sydney eg. all make strippers one side and a cyber sex shop on the other!! It is very central to all the main shops and trams.
We have booked a wine tour to the Barrossa Valley for tomorrow and will be sampling wine from 3 vineyard plus having wine with our 3 course lunch. Hic!
Adelaide is very hot (36C) but luckily all the shops have air conditioning!
All the best
