Location: Perth, Australia

MapHi everyone. This is our last blog from Australia as we fly to Singapore tomorrow. We have had a good time in Perth. The self-catering apartment is lovely. So spacious, clean and quiet!! The swimming pool was also great especially during the hot afternoon. We had a lovely party with Janet and Noel with the rest of her family and friends. They made us very welcome and the musical soiree (The Mandolin Affaire) helped to add to the magic of the evening, sitting outside, enjoying the sunset, chatting, and a wonderful barbeque.
We hired a car for three days which gave us the freedom to explore the surrounding area of Perth. Of course we had to go to the Swan Valley vineyards but instead of sampling too many wines we went to a chocolate place and sampled loads of free chocolate!! We drove the car off road into the scrub to a wonderful lookout place in Walyunga National Park. Still no sightings of Kangaroos!
On the return journey we visited Lisa's mum and dad for a 'liquid' drink in Sorrento (north of Perth). It was lovely to see where Lisa grew up. Her dad had got out the old photographs of Lisa and family when they were small. They are really looking forward to Lisa's visit in July.
Yesterday we went on a dolphin watch and guess rained!! Not just any rain but the edge of a cyclone rain!! Perth had more than its entire monthly rainfall in the time that we were on the boat!! Luckily we saw dolphins playing alongside the boat which made our 'drenching' worthwhile!
Today we are in Freemantle sightseeing in the old town. We visited the Museum of Shipwrecks and saw part of the hull of the Batavia which was sunk in early 17th century. It has been restored and is on view along with some of its artifacts (silver coins etc).
Well goodbye from Oz. It had been a good experience on the whole with amazing countryside but sometimes.... too hot!!
All the best. Can't believe we will be in England in 3 weeks time!!
