MapDays 9-10-11 - Stockholm and Borlange

It's OK, I'm still alive!! It's been a pretty busy last couple of days

On Sunday I said goodbye to Edinburgh and the U.K. and headed to Stockholm to catch up with Shane and Andy. I met Shane at the Airport and we caught up with Andy at the Red Boat Hostel, our accommodation while in Stockholm.

On Sunday evening we had a bit of a stroll around town, grabbed some supplies and then just headed back to the hostel and chilled out. Shane had just flown in from Oz and was battling to stay awake in an effort to avoid the dreaded jet lag!

On Monday we decided to do a few touristy things. After a bit of strolling around town, Shane and I headed to the Vasa Museum. The Vasa was a big naval ship, built in the 1600's. On it's maiden voyage it sank just out of Stockholm. It lay there till the 1960's when it was finally salvaged from the sea floor, restored and put on display in it's very own museum. I'd actually been to the museum last time I went to Stockholm but it was a very rushed visit so it was nice to take a bit of time to have a good look.

For the rest of the day Shane and I just strolled around town until we caught up with Andy for a bit of dinner.

That evening we had quite a few beers with some Swedish guys who were staying in our hostel. In Sweden, the only beer you can buy from a supermarket is low alcohol. To get full strength beer you have to go to a special state run bottle shop. We didn't know this at the time and as a result we only had the low strength stuff. Thankfully the Swedish guys had some full strength beer for us so we were able to make a decent night of it!

On Tuesday we grabbed our gear and headed to the station to head to Borlange, which is the town where the wedding will be. It's a pretty cool little town! Tuesday night was an absolute blast! Everyone headed to Johanna's (The bride to be!) parents place. There were about thirty of us there all together and a good mix of Aussies and Swedes. We played a game of Burn Ball, which is a Swedish version of soft ball. It was fantastic fun and everybody got really into it! After that we had a big bbq and had quite a few beers. All in all it was an awesome night and I'm regretting not getting the camera out for some snaps to share with you all!

And so that brings me to today... it's been another relaxing chilled out day. The weather is awesome here and we've spent most of the morning chilling out around town and I'm about to head to the hotel spa and sauna and continue relaxing!
