Location: Amneville/Nancy, France

MapToday we decided to explore the city of Nancy, about 70 km south. We were surprised by Place Stanislas, as we haven’t seen so much gold ornamentation outside of cathedrals. The entrance gates, railings and lamp standards are black with gold decoration. Two of the corners of the Place have decorated fountains with statues and there is a statue of Stanislas in the centre. We got two tourist maps from the TI and did two tours of the city, the first on foot covering mostly 18th century buildings. The second tour was a combination of walking and driving to visit the many Art Nouveau buildings from the early 1900s. They have some similarity to the work of Gaudi that we saw in Spain and today they are mostly used as apartments or offices.
