Location: Cologne, Germany

MapToday we drove into the city centre, parked and headed off on a walking tour of the centre. We started out walking across a bridge over the Rhine to get a wide view and photos of the city centre and the cathedral. The cathedral is probably the best known attraction of Cologne and it is quite spectacular, although a bit dirty on the outside and undergoing some cleaning. It is very beautiful on the inside with many sculptures, carvings and stained glass. Cologne was heavily damaged during the Second World War so there is no historic centre here, however, they are excavating some foundations of Roman buildings and we found a gateway with two towers, probably medieval.
