Maurice Greer’s Travel Diary

Wednesday, 19 Aug 2009

Location: Colmberg, Germany

MapAfter lunch at the apartment we went for a walk in the village and up into the woodland area on the hill nearby but the temperature rose to 32 C and it became too hot for walking so we returned to the apartment to cool off. Later we drove to Rothenburg ob der Tauber; a famous medieval walled town close by. We walked along part of the wall ramparts and saw many half-timbered buildings and other buildings of note, many standing since the 1400s. We had dinner in a nice restaurant and later caught up to the Night Watchman doing his tour of the town. We joined the group for a couple of stops and then at 9:00 pm we watched the animated figures on each side of the town clock, supposed to represent a wine drinking contest that spared the town from destruction during the 30 years war. Later we had coffee and desserts in a hotel beer-garden and drove back to our apartment.
