Location: Bad Aibling, Germany

MapToday we left Colmberg, after three weeks there, and drove to Bad Aibling about 60 km south east of Munich. We noticed the scenery change to more forested hills backed by the Alps. After checking in to our hotel, a lovely old house converted to a 20 room hotel, we went walking to explore the town. We visited the church which has a beautiful rococo interior with lots of stucco relief and two balconies that look like they might belong in a theatre or opera house. We stopped for some refreshments at a restaurant patio overlooking the town and with views of the nearby mountains. The town has many stucco buildings decorated with paintings depicting religious themes or local life and window and door surrounds are also painted with decorative designs, all quite different to the half-timbered buildings further north and west. There are a number of narrow waterways flowing through the town, possibly mill-races from times past. We had dinner in a restaurant in the central square and walked back to the hotel.
