Location: Baden and Vienna, Austria

MapToday we took the train from Baden into Vienna, travelling through some vineyards which are being harvested. We started walking from the station to find the city centre using the spire of a church as our landmark. On the way we found many interesting buildings as well as a nice park. We had lunch at Josephs Kai, along the Danube and eventually found the church (Dom), a huge gothic structure undergoing some much needed cleaning, in St. Stephans Platz. Across from the Dom is the modern Haas House which contrasts with all the ornate 18th and 19th century buildings around it. We continued our walk through the old town centre visiting St Peter’s church, Schotten-kirche, Palais Kinsky, Burg Theatre, Rathaus, University, Votiv-kirche and round to the Opera House and Theatre district where we had dinner in a sidewalk restaurant. We decided to ride the tram which leaves from the Opera station and travels directly back to the centre of Baden, about an hour’s journey.
