Location: Lecco, Italy

MapWe drove back to St. Moritz this morning, crossing over the “Cresta Run” bobsled track used during the winter Olympics that were held here in 1948. We walked around and took some photos of the nice buildings including fancy hotels and the “leaning tower” a 33 metre high structure that dates from 1139 AD. We noticed that some of the hotels and high end shops are closed from early September to early December, which explains why we thought the town was deserted last night. We drove on to St. Moritz Bad, a suburb on the west side of the lake, and walked around to the lake shore to take some photos across the lake to St. Moritz on the steep opposite side. After lunch we drove south to Italy, along more lake shores and down some very steep slopes with sharp switch-backs. As we approached the northern end of Lake Como, the road passed through many tunnels so our views over the lake were limited all the way down to Lecco. We picked up some groceries for our six-day stay in this region in an apartment hotel on the edge of Civate and had dinner in the hotel restaurant.
