Location: Madison, WI, USA

MapMy and my husband's desire to visit South Africa grew out of our desire for adventure and a wide variety of activities. We are both advanced open water scuba divers and avid hikers. Another factor was that the company my husband works for would be paying for a majority of the flights and hotels for both of us in addition to giving my husband 4 extra weeks of paid time off. Time to think big.

Before any successful adventure comes planning. Based on a tip from a friend, we used Africa Travel Resource to help us book our safari and all our accommodations. We plan on a mixture of driving and flying once we are there in order to reach the various destinations we have planned. Here is a rough idea of our itinerary:

August 14th: Leave Madison.
August 15th: Arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa.
August 16th: Drive to Kruger National Park. Spend 4 days on safari.
August 20th: Drive back to Johannesburg, fly to Cape Town. Spend 3 days in Cape Town hiking, shopping, and exploring the city.
August 23rd: Drive to Hermanus, spend 2 days there scuba diving, whale watching and shark cage diving.
August 25th: Drive to Stanford, spend 3 days there hiking, kayaking and exploring the beach.
August 28th: Drive to Franschhoek, spend 2 days there wine tasting and touring vineyards.
August 30th: Drive back to Cape Town.
August 31st: Fly to Livingstone, Zambia. Spend 4 days there exploring Victoria Falls and white water rafting.
September 4th: Fly home.
September 5th: Arrive in Madison.
