Coleen’s Travel Diary

Monday, 24 Jan 2011

Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

MapWell, another big adventure day - took the bullet boat from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. The trip took 6 hours and was very enjoyable. Coleen spent most of the trip outside on the bow watching the scenery. As we approached Siem Reap it felt like being in a US war boat in Viet Nam. We were waiting for the Viet Cong to jump out of the jungle and attack.

Took a tuk-tuk from the port to our hotel. Seemed to take forever, and only cost us $2. Siem Reap is much smaller than Phnom Penh, and is a very poor community. Tourism is a recent phenomenon due to Angkor Wat.

Rather than our usual backpack guest house, we're staying at a four star hotel, which has all the amenities. It's BEAUTIFUL! What a treat. And the airconditioning is a blessing. It has a lovely garden and pool side area.

Went for supper at a traditional Khmer restaurant. The food was amazing.
