Elaine and Peter’s Travel Diary

Saturday, 19 Feb 2011

Location: Sydney, Australia

MapArrival in Sydney was a bit of a shock. Gone was the warm and friendly-yet efficient -driver named Warren from the Bush and Beach Company of Auckland to be replaced by the slick, impersonal transer from the airport in a shiny limo driven by a pin stripe suit!
The Marriot hotel on Pitt Street is a busy, bustling place but with a room on the 28th floor we have great views of the harbour and the opera house. Apparently Pitt Street is the most expensive street in the world!
We hadn't realised what a wrench it would be to say goodbye to New Zealand, to our new found friends and to the cameraderie of our fellow travellers. We were also surprised at how bewildered and lost we initially felt when we arrived here. The city was a bit overpowering (and we are seasoned travellers used to doing our own thing!) --and as we have found out, very, very expensive.
So we settled down for a good night's sleep for the next stage of our journey.
