Location: Kanchanaburi, Thailand

MapEnjoyed Bangkok a lot more the second time round, as we stayed near Khao San Road (Backpacker Heaven), where the street is lined with stalls and bars. The place is so busy and vibrant, it was fantastic just to wander around all day, buying the odd thing and stopping for a drink. Met some lovely people, and went out in the eve for cocktail at a bar famous for its lady-boy staff. Very amusing! :)
Got bus to Kanchanaburi on Saturday (town 3h NE Bangkok). This is close to the death railway built during WW2, so visited the museum and graves. That eve we sat in a bar and watched 'Bridge Over The River Kwai' in preparation. Today we did the real tourist thing and booked a tour which included Elephant trekking (actually sat bareback on this elephant's shoulders!) and rafting (literally bamboo tied together with rope) down the river. Was fantastic experience! Later we went to Erawan Waterfalls and had a wonderful swim while being nibbled by fish! Then took the train on the death railway (Dan H & Dad - you would have loved it!!) over the River Kwai Bridge. Exhausting day but throughly enjoyed. Still not used to the high tempertures out here, but absolutly loving the food! Heading down south tomorrow so we can get onto the beach in time for new year :)
