Location: Stratford, South Taranaki, New Zealand

MapA Shakespearean town in New Zealand
After the weekend in Wellington and the day trip up to Hamilton, my next game will be in New Plymouth, at the south-west corner of North Island. En route, I stayed for a night at Whanganui, but today I Have moved on to Stratford, a small town on the way to New Plymouth which is a good base for exploring Mount Taranaki (Mount Egmont) in the Egmont National Park. Mt Taranaki is another classic cone-shaped volcano, upper slopes covered in snow at this time of year. If the weather is favourable, I plan to spend 2 or 3 days walking around the lower parts of the mountain, staying in mountain huts. So no internet access for the next few days.
Stratford is named after Shakespeare's birthplace (I'm not sure why) but practically all the streets are named after his characters. I am staying at a backpackers on Romeo St, and there is Juliet, Cordelia, Hamlet, Fenton Street, and many others. Weird.
So this week, it's back to the 'Explore New Zealand' part of the trip.
