MapWales 66 Fiji 0 - Match report
Coming in to the Rugby World Cup, there was some nervousness about this final game against Fiji after Fiji beat Wales in France in the 2007 competition. This meant that Wales did not progress to the knockout stage of the cup, a severe embarrassment for Wales and a result which led to the sack for the then Welsh Head Coach.
This time there was no repeat of the performance from Fiji; they never really sparked together as a team and Wales achieved a comfortable victory with 9 tries, all converted. There were again strong performances from Wales' young players, especially Scott Williams, Rhys Priestland and George North.
With Ireland's decisive victory over Italy this evening, the stage is set for a keen battle between Wales and Ireland next Saturday in the quarter-final in Wellington.
See you there!
Robin, with many thanks to Bev and Kevin Freemantle for making my time in Hamilton so enjoyable.
