Tanya & Matt’s Travel Diary

Thursday, 18 Aug 2005

Location: Salzburg, Austria

MapHere ends one of our favourite places so far, Salzburg. The rain has stopped and we are finally enjoying some sun again. The last couple of days have been spent wandering through endless Sound of Music scenes and Mozart memorabilia.

We spent ages out at Hellbrun Palace - famous for trick water fountains which soak everyone (kind of pointless as it was raining!), fantastic gardens and water features and of course the gazebo from The Sound of Music.

On returning to town we walked up the massive hill in the middle of the city to Nonnburg Abbey (singing "How do you solve a problem like Tanya " all the way) and the castle, only to find the castle too expensive to enter. At the base of the hill is St Peters Church where the Von Trapps hid at the end of the movie, but it also had some pretty cool Catacombs.

Off to Berchtesgaten in Germany today to check out Hitlers hidey holes.
