Lyn & John Jarden’s Travel Diary

Friday, 30 Mar 2018

Location: Whangarei, New Zealand

MapWell the socialising was as good as it usually is after a little alcoholic lubrication, still very warm and extra muggy up here.
Friday morning it was a case of getting sorted and then attending the opening ceremony. This was followed by investigating the trade stalls hunting for a new battery for the van, unfortunately Battery Town decided not to front up and as a result I was tempted to buy a different type of battery. As luck would have it, as I was contemplating this Lyns cousin Des Ryan turned up on his bike and we arranged to meet him down the big hill at his place after lunch for a bike ride around the town basin. During these discussions Des said that a mate of his owned the local battery Town franchise, he rang him and arranged for us to see him on Saturday morning.
The bike ride was very interesting as both Des and his Wife April had electric bikes!!!!
The ride was really good and then it came to the subject of going up the long steep hill they suggested they would go on home at bout 20km/h up the hill and then come back and picked us up with the bike rack on the back of the car, what a relief!!
It was then a case of a cuppa and a chat before arranging to have a meal together on Monday along with Pauline and Ken.
The entertainment was a Country and Western duo who played for about 3 hours, however our bed called after about 2 hours, not that we are getting old mind you!!
Tomorrow it is battery shopping and generally sightseeing around town.
