Rich’s Travel Diary

Location: Perth & the South West, Australia

MapIt turns out Australia is not all sunshine and heat. It was really cold when we first arrived in Perth, in fact for our whole time in the south west we've been wearing all our warm clothes all the time. While in Perth we took a day trip up to the Pinnacles which are a series of rock formations before doing some sand surfing (in a blowing gale). We then went south to Fremantle and on one of the days we took a day trip to Rottnest Island where we were able to hire bicycles and cycle the whole island. We almost had the island to oursleves apart from the occassional tourist and the funny rat-like marsupials called quokas who took a liking to Rich. From Fremantle we hired a car and travelled down to the Margaret River wine growing area. Managed to get suitably tipsy on the obigatory wine tasting tour. Rich was definitely a bit pissed, I managed to get away with buying 3 bottles of good quality wine that day (surprising as I dont think he had taken that spending into account in his spreadsheet!). Continued on down the coast as far as Albany. It was lovely there and was the first time I actually saw England win something at cricket! We finished our road trip with a climb up the highest peak in the Stirling Ranges, with fantastic views over the National Park.
