Michael’s Travel Diary

Location: Dahab, Egypt

MapOkay, another quick note, the sun is too nice today to be inside on a computer longer than it takes me to find the information that I'm looking for on Jordan, my next port of call.

Just for your info, I have now completed the Nitrox Course on scuba diving as well, and did my first wreck dive yesterday on the SS Thistlegorm, a Brittish supply ship during WWII that was sunk by German bombers on the night of October 5, 1941. It went under at 1:30am, on the 6th October, after the bombs landed on Hold 4, the hold that contained all the supply ammunition!

Anyway, more on that later, but with regards to my earlier dives at the Bellz & Blue Hole, where I said there were plaques on the wall for all the divers who had died. Well I found out yetserday that it 154 divers in total (as of Saturday when I was there) and it became 155 on the Sunday, the day after I was there.

A young German man, who worked in the area as an underwater videographer took his single tank, entered the water on his own, and dropped like a stone. It wasn't until 2 and a half hours later, that someone went thru his backpack and found a suicide note. The trench is that deep (800m +) that his body will never be found. All I can say is that I am gld it didn't happen the day I was there.

I'll fill you all in with more info about my time here soon.
