Location: Manaus, Brazil

MapSaturday morning went with an Indian guide in a boat to see the meeting of the Rio Negro (black) and the Rio Solimoes (milky coffee). They flow side by side for a few kilometres without mixing, just swirling into one another. On way back we stopped at a island and went a little way ino the forest. It´s the end of the dry season now and the guide (who looked like an indian version of the fat guy in Cold Feet - John something?) pointed out on the trees the level to which the water rises. There must be a 5m difference in river level at least between dry & wet season. Had lunch on a floating restaurant near the island. There seemed to be a pile of japenese tourist there.
