Location: THE INCA TRAIL - PERU DAY 2, Peru

Map*THE INCA TRAIL - PERU* - DAY 2

27/01/06

TOTAL WALKING TIME: 7 hrs
TOTAL DISTANCE: 12km

Opened our tent in the morning to see the most gorgeous vista. Then the porters brought us tea and coffee in bed (well in tent anyway)!. From the first step onto the trail that morning it was all uphill for 4 hours constantly as we headed towards "Dead Womans Pass", what a wonderfully appropriate name for it! It should have also been called "Dead Blokes Pass" as it nearly killed Ian.

On the way up and on the way down (which was about 1,000,000 steps with water flowing over them) to the campsite for lunch it pissed it down the whole time and was very cold especially at the top of the pass where it was 4,200m and the wind was coming from the other side of the valley.

I was so pleased to make it down to lunch and had a massive grin on my face until I got my camera out of my pocket and had to wring it out - it was broken. Thanks to my camera envy earlier on in the trip I did have my new camera with me so all was not lost.

Surprisingly our legs felt ok as we went to sleep that night.
