Location: Moscow, Russia

MapWell, I've been in Moscow for a week now, and am beginning to find my feet. The flights over were uneventful - of course I couldn't sleep, but I did manage to watch a few movies and entertain myself for the duration. Was pleasantly surprised by the weather in Moscow when i arrived. They have had the first snowfall of the season, but there's barely any of it remaining. Over the last few days, it's started to get a little cold, so I'm sure that more snow won't be too far off.
I've spend a couple of days at the university where I'll be doing the teaching. All of the teachers seem very nice - and I've spent a few lessons so far just talking to the students about Australia. The teaching style is very different to our universitys, but the students all seem happy enough.
I've never been force fed so many sweets and hot drinks. As you probably know, I don't like hot drinks, but I just have to sit and sip away politely because they won't take no for an answer.
I've managed to venture out into the city centre a couple of times. There are a couple of other volunteers here at the moment, so they have been able to show me around a bit, but I have also managed to successfully negotiate the Metro a few times myself - evidenced by the fact that i have made it to the internet cafe on my own!
Have seen a few of the usual sights - walked around Red Square, been into that crazy collection of colours that is St Basils Cathedral, and have had a bit of a wander through the GUM, the lovely big shopping centre. There's plenty more to see, and I'll get to all of that on my days off.
