Location: Nelson, New Zealand

MapNew Zealands Sunshine Capital

A short trip on the Magic Bus took us to Nelson, which has the most hours of sunshine in NZ. In view of this we chose a hostel with a swimming pool. The sun shone brightly for the 5 days we were here and much of the time was spent by the pool, although we did venture out to the nearby Abel Tasman National Park on one day. Yet more walking was needed, but again it was worthwile as some of the beaches there are amazing, both agreeing that they are on a par if not better than some in Thailand. The sand was a superb golden colour and the water crystal clear with very little waves. The walk was pretty tough in the blazing sun so it was nice to stop off for a refreshing swim in the sea.
