Location: Hoi An, Vietnam

MapHey there,

Get out the atlas cause we're in a different city...AGAIN!!!

Hoi An...located an hour flight north of Saigon. Shops, temples and a lot of bikes and mopeds crowed this ancient mercantile town. There are also what seems like a hundred tailors that will make anything from skirts to bags and everything in between. The people are friendly and very welcoming. Yesterday we did the main tourist things. The temples, the museums but mainly spent time walking through the markets

Today we took a day to explore My Son where some of the most ancient monuments in Vietnam can be found. As our tour book said and i quote "My Son is usually hot and dry [...]" And that's exactly what it was. Dear God is it hot here.

For you history buffs, My Son was the Viet Cong field HQ during the Vietnam war, within one of the US "free fire" zones. After one of the main temples was totally destroyed, President Nixon ordered US forces to avoid damaging Cham Structures.

After the trip to My Son, a boat took us back to Hoi An. After eating lunch on the boat (included in our $5 half day tour), the boat's engine decided it had done enough for one day and died, leaving us stranded in the middle of the river...AWESOME.

A second boat came 10minutes later, we transferred and made it back to Hoi An shortly afterwards. We cruised the village for a bit and are now back at the hotel to relax a bit. I think we'll head back to the town a little later to check it out at night.

Tomorrow we are taking the bus to Hue and staying there for two nights. Another day, another city. Hopefully the weather will be a bit more bearable a little further north.
